Hi all,

I'm pretty new to this, so bear with me please. I installed OSX 10.5.7 with the iAktos release on my AMD based desktop. It's pretty awesome, as I have my dual core CPU showing up properly at full speed, with all 4 GB RAM showing up as well. The only two things that are stopping me (and most other people from what I read in the forums) from having a total "hackintosh" are getting my video card and wireless card to work (yes, I know I posted this in "LAN and Wireless", since that's what I'm mainly concerned about).

I have a RaLink RT2561/RT61 PCI card. From most of the threads that I've read recently, the RaLink drivers provided both on the American and Taiwan website are PowerPC drivers, so they don't work with Intel (and especially not with AMD) based PCs. I've tried them (and a couple of other drivers) and they just tell me the "device [is] not found." Are there any suggestions for others drivers I can try? I've tried a couple and they haven't worked so far, but since I'm desperate for any solutions before I consider buying an additional wireless card, I'm willing to try anything that worked for you.

Also, I was wondering if anyone reading this has come across drivers for either ATI 2100 onboard video or Radeon HD4350 PCI-Express cards.

Thanks (in advance)! ;)

Hmm.. Honestly, I've tried as many drivers I could find to get my RT2561/RT61 to work and without success.. I eventually gave up and went wired instead.. Some people claimed that using the older ralink drivers worked for them but these people failed to provide us with their drivers.. Other people initially claimed to get it working but then later corrected themselves as using a different chipset and not the RT61..

From my understanding, the reason why the RT61 is PowerPC only is simply that the RT61 is a PCI card for which there are slots on all PowerPC systems but the Intel based MacPro systems used PCI-E Slots which are completely different thus Ralinktech never bothered adding support.. so I don't see how using tiger drivers instead of leopard drivers were gonna help as it has nothing to do with the operating system and everything to do with the architecture of your system

So I humbly request those who have succeeded, if anyone has truly succeeded, with their RT61 chipsets to come forward and contribute to the osx86 project.. help the many who are still struggling..

To those with the knowledge in writing kext extensions.. could someone please help and look to porting the so-called "PowerPC" driver to "intel" ..This would be greatly appreciated by many! Someone by the name of Andy once looked to porting the linux drivers but development seems to have seized as there has been no update in over a year!

To those willing to take up the challenge: Good Luck my friends.. and thank you in advance for your attempts and concideration

And Ralinktech.. If you're reading this: come on.. don't be a spoilsport! we bought your product.. at least give us some support!

Uhm.. After doing a little more searching I came across a screenshot of iAtkos 7i that shows an install option for RT61 PCI.. apparently the 7i distribution has a driver.. can anyone confirm this working? Any idea where this driver comes from? Can someone please extract the kext from this distribution and post! PLEASE! PRETTY PLEASE! :(

I installed the iAtkos 7 distribution, and there was an option for RT61 PCI. I checked it off when installing, however (unless I did something wrong) it didn't seem to cause the PCI card to work. Note that I *am* booting in safe mode (with -x since I don't have any working graphics drivers), so that may be the reason. Another reason may be that I am using an AMD based desktop. Other than that, I don't know if the driver actually works. :(

I can post the kext. Do you have any idea where it would be located on the iAtkos 7 DVD image?

I used the iAtkos 7 image and I checked the install option for the RT61 driver, but it didn't work for some reason (things to note: I am booting in safe mode, since I don't have any graphics drivers, and I have a AMD based desktop).

I can try extracting the driver, if you could tell me where it would be located on the image.

Im not that familiar with how exactly to go about extracting files from the iAtkos disc.. hopefully it is in the form of a .pkg file of some sort.. if not, the other option would be to browse through your extensions folder for the kext.. the only problem is since I've never come across a working kext before I wouldn't know how it would be named so you'd have to use your discretion in selecting the right kext (grab anything that says ralink, rt61, or rt2561, or anything rt2***) also, the kext may be dependant on other kexts which might be more subtly named so there is no guarantee it will work but lets give it a shot anyway

As for running on an AMD without graphics and in safe mode, this could very well be the problem.. I suggest trying to get your graphics running first so that you can avoid safe mode and see if that works.. I dont know what effect AMD architecture has on the OS but hopefully none.. are you able to use any other pci device in safe mode? I have a pci firewire card that loads in safe mode so just check if you can do the same on AMD.

My system runs pretty darn good, intel, everything ran out of the box but: graphics needed a kext to get quartz extreme, and needed kext for input audio to work though output worked fine.. So if you manage to extract the kext I'll test it on my system, there shouldn't be any other glitches in the way so we can find out if the kext works or not

Maybe someone can save us the trouble an confirm if anyone has been successful with the mysterious iAtkos 7i driver
