    10.5.7 GMA950 Quartz Extreme issue

Hey.. Glad I could help everyone who were stuck trying to figure out this problem.. For those who are wondering about Snow Leopard.. The framebuffer kext gets replaced with every update i.e. from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2.. so you have to re-install the kext after updates.. As for laptops.. I dont know if it works or not.. just know that it works for my Desktop with hardware id 2772.. After about 1.5 years I decided to clean install my mac and lost the framebuffer kext so logged on to download it from my original post.. I saw Webplus's post which said he had the same motherboard as mine and Dr Hurt's DSDT patch worked for him.. So I gave the DSDT patch another try.. and IT WORKS! it was a little tricky as my generated DSDT doesnt look "exactly" like the examples and I probably didn't patch it correctly when I tried 2 yrs ago.. but the result is brilliant.. ZERO ARTIFACTS! And I swear the screen actually looks crisper! I seriously suggest people try to patch their DSDT files first before resorting to the framebuffer kext.. Good Luck people! Edit: BTW something I picked up about doing the DSDT hack.. Do not use anything else with this hack.. remove all enablers and modified kexts as well as EFI strings.. I didnt do this at first and my mac started up without a finder or dock.. I believe it something made it think it was a secondary display
  2. Hi.. I know this is something thats been discussed often all over on the net but my reading hasn't answered my question My scenario is that I own a PPC G4 Quicksilver 2002 running tiger, and a Intel Hackintosh desktop running 10.6.4. I also have Restore discs for 10.5 Leopard belonging to a Intel Macbook. I found conflicting information about these discs and need some clarity, some say that these discs only have intel architecture on them, some say it is universal but will only install on macbooks because of restrictions placed on the disc, yet one person claimed to install leopard from a macbook to a g5 ppc using target disc mode. So firstly, do the restore discs really have only intel architecture for 10.5 or is it universal? If it is universal, then can I create a smbios.plist for chameleon to inject that will match the specs of a real macbook, thus allowing the restore discs to run on my hackintosh? If I get the discs to run on the hackintosh will my computer, can I install it to a 2nd hard drive remove drive and place it in the G4 will it run? Lastly, just curious but will target disc mode will work on a hackintosh or not?

Ralink RT61 mac driver development effort

I'd love for you to be wrong too.. but sadly you're not!
  5. OK.. firstly, this kext uses the ralink utility that comes from the package on the Ralink website.. It doesnt use Airport utility at all.. 2nd, My whole post is about asking for someone to help update the "Old" kext to work with 10.6.. the code in post 1 shows it tried to load on my PC but was "outdated" 3rd, the progress I meant was to find this "old" kext file because its not easily available.. the links other people provided are usually dead or not accessible to my country, and the new kext driver on the Ralink Website is only for PowerPC.. Apologies for any misunderstanding If anyone is running 10.5 and has a PCI-based RT61 chipset could you please test this kext to confirm that it works Please we need someone to help fix this kext
  6. I dont like to bump.. but hoping for some response.. even if its bad news
  7. GOOD NEWS for some! I found the mysterious Ralink kext that some have reported working! Im starting this new thread as the old threads seem to have been forgotten or ignored.. BUT We really NEED the HELP of a DEVELOPER or someone with basic knowledge on editing kexts! This is what I know so far: The new RT61 kext is only for PowerPC architecture so will never work on hackintoshes.. There was an old driver released in 2006 that was made to be Universal.. Some people reported success with these kexts on their hackintoshes a while back.. but they disappear and never post replies when asked further details like which OSX version they were running or whether they were using a PCI or cardbus device.. The RT61 kexts supplied by ralink are the exactly same (same filename, size, version) for both PCI and Cardbus.. So when I found the 2006 kext and installed it on my 10.6.2 system with my PCI device installed I get the following messages when booting in verbose mode: Dec 31 00:20:15 OSX86 kernel[0]: kxld[com.Ralink.driver.RT61CardBusDriver]: The super class vtable __ZTV20IOEthernetController for vtable __ZTV17RT61CardBusDriver is out of date. Make sure your kext has been built against the correct headers. Dec 31 00:20:15 OSX86 kernel[0]: Can't load kext com.Ralink.driver.RT61CardBusDriver - link failed. Dec 31 00:20:15 OSX86 kernel[0]: Failed to load executable for kext com.Ralink.driver.RT61CardBusDriver. Dec 31 00:20:15 OSX86 kernel[0]: Kext com.Ralink.driver.RT61CardBusDriver failed to load (0xdc008016). Dec 31 00:20:15 OSX86 kernel[0]: Failed to load kext com.Ralink.driver.RT61CardBusDriver (error 0xdc008016). Im no genius but the very first line saying "...ZTV20IOEthernetController for vtable __ZTV17RT61CardBusDriver is out of date" tells me that there is hope.. This Kext was released before Leopard was around nevermind Snow Leopard.. I dont know why they made a Universal Kext seeing as there probably wasnt any intel based macbooks or Mac Pros with PCI (Not PCI Express) to my knowledge.. Perhaps it was for the Developers to work with during the Pre-Release of Tiger for Intel.. The point is it DOES work for some People.. My guess is this kext is "out of date" for Snow Leopard but I dont have 10.5 or 10.4 to test it either.. Please can someone decompile the Kext below and Recompile it for Snow Leopard.. I believe this is progress but dont have the knowledge to take it further.. Please Help! RT61CardBusDriver.kext.zip

    Atheros AR5005(G)

Thats an unusual suggestion.. my USB Wireless is a Netgear wg111t with an atheros 5005UG chipset.. but i'll try anyway.. thnx EDIT: there are 3 different USB drivers.. which one do you suggest?
  10. I have 3 Drives that I set up as follows: drive 1: Snow Leopard + Vista drive 2: Snow Leopard + XP (a smaller hard drive that i installed just in case i have issues with drive 1 drive 3: Storage Bootloader: Chameleon 2.0 RC4 installed via EFI method on Drive 1 and Drive 2 My suggestion to you is: 1. Start with setting up a your OSX on your 1st drive.. Format the drive with GUID! Not MBR! 2. Read up how to install Chameleon via EFI method using the terminal in OSX.. Its not that hard so do it manually.. not with a package or script someone made because they dont work for everyone.. Install it to a flash drive or your 2nd Drive if you want.. the EFI method isnt necessary at this point but is later so if you get it right here then you're good to carry on 3. Make sure you can use it to boot your OSX before going any further! 4. Download the patch available online that will allow you to use Boot Camp on a Hackintosh.. Use boot camp to Partition your drive as it does a good job to avoid making mistakes.. 5. After partitioning you can close boot camp because the next part doesnt work for everyone.. 6. Restart your PC and install your Windows from CD.. but ALWAYS REFORMAT the BOOTCAMP PARTITION ONLY within the Windows installation to your desired file system NTFS etc.. Dont ever use convert! 7. Your PC will now only boot into Windows.. so boot from the 2nd Drive or flash drive with Chameleon and get back into OSX.. 8. Once logged into OSX just reinstall your Chameleon bootloader to Drive 1 but this time it must be the EFI method! 9. Thats all.. this is how I did it.. and i struggled for days before figuring this sure method 10. Enjoy your Dual Boot
  11. Hmm interesting.. I completely forgot about fat32.. but that also reminds me.. there are file size limitations to fat32.. in fact I think NTFS also has some file size limitations if i remember correctly.. Also paragon apparently fixed their problems in their latest version and its apparently faster than NTFS-3G.. I haven't had any issues as yet although I think it killed auto-sleep but I used pleasesleep to overcome that.. I used to use NTFS-3G back in 10.5.7 but experienced occasional issues.. Its an internal drive not external.. My noob impression is that Macdrive performs better on Win7 than Paragon does on OSX.. I suppose NTFS-3G being free would make NTFS the logical choice.. but to overcome the limitations Im leaning toward HFS+ instead.. haven't found a decent free alternative to Macdrive but since I already have it it doesn't matter.. Thnx for your opinions
  12. Im running 32 bit Win7, 32 bit XP, and 32 bit SnowLeo on a tri boot system with a minimal extra kexts added to get the system running beautifully.. I dont use XP often but Win7 and Snow fairly equally.. On Win7 I have MacDrive running to access my OSX partition.. and on OSX I have Paragon NTFS 7 to access my Win partitions.. both run fairly well to me but Im a noob so dont know much better.. I have another hard drive which I want to use to store all my data and music and videos etc.. I can change the default directories of both OSX and Windows to route to the extra hard drive.. Please tell me your opinion which is best in terms of performance speed and compatibility as a file system for the extra hard drive.. should I make it NTFS or HFS+ or Other?
  13. Hey I know its been months but Im curious if you ever succeeded with snow leopard? I've been trying but it panics at boot on appleIIpata.kext.. any suggestions?

Ralink RT61 mac driver development effort

If your RT61 chipset is on a cardbus then I think some people have had success.. but if it on a PCI card it wont work because Real Intel Macs dont have PCI slots.. only PCI-E slots.. so Ralink will probably never write a driver for us.. 10.5 was still available for PPC so Ralink updated the driver without intel support for RT61.. our only hope is that someone with enough knowledge and expertise is willing to write a new driver.. We've been waiting a long time so think its best to just buy another wifi card that is supported
  15. Hi.. After updating from iAtkos 5i to 10.5.7 I still had auto sleep working perfectly.. then upgraded to 10.5.8 and sleep broke but using the sleepenabler kext it worked again. Also I dont have any disabler kext nor AppleIntelCPUManagement kext installed.. I dont have an edited dsdt file neither as graphics works fine with intelintergratedframebuffer kext.. All was fine and working perfectly till.. I enabled file sharing! I am certain that this was the only setting I ever changed and did not install any new programs either.. I have since disabled the file sharing but auto sleep is still broken.. normal sleep and scheduled sleep works fine though.. any ideas? Any workarounds or alternatives short of reinstalling?
