hey guys,

i downloaded the JaS dvd.

md5 checksum was good.

then i patched it with the patch that JaS had told people with AMD systems to use before installing... it supposedly makes amd enabling seamlessly integrated, and is not required; post-install.

the 300mb (or somethign around there) ppf file was the one i got, off the demon.

on the dvd download, the md5 hash is listed on the page

but i could only find one reference to the md5 of the patched iso anywhere.. and there was no verification as to whether it was the right hash code. it was a thread where someone said "this is what i got" and no one replied. and it matched, so i went with it.

then i tried installing with sse2 and sse3 support, but it hangs. kernel panic. apparently thats normal, so i installed with only the AMD_enable, and SSE2 and 10.4.6 combo update patch.

it installs and boots fine, straight into the OS. full functionality.

NOW....onto the real problem.

why can't i install anything? i get an error message when installing my wireless card drivers, or my videocard drivers from macvidia... it seems as though the installer is not working. and there are absolutely no threads that cover solutions to this or even mention this problem.

does anyone know what to do?!

I don't know why....

But Pasifist might be a work around.

Standing on the shoulder of giants.

i knew that was gonna be the first answer.

and it's exactly what i was hoping to avoid.

i didnt have this problem when i went from 10.4.3 - 10.4.6, doing every update in between, so this shouldnt have to be worked around. thanks for the suggestion though, but i'd rather get it solved than ignore it.

anyone else!?

come on doods

ok, so i found out it's not actually the installer. but it's my drive settings apparently.

when i try to repair permissions, it tells me Operation could not be completed due to permissions (redundant?! hell ya)

and when i try to Verify the disk, it says it cannot mount the disk for checking.

it has somethign to do with permissions on the drive as a whole, but i've never had this problem before, and i can move files to and from the drive, so this is really weird.

it's not related to your drive , the amd part of jas disk doesn't repair the permissions before rebooting ,i'm surprised that you are the first to discover that the permissions are royally screwed

I have found a solution, and it seems to be working quite well.

basically.. the problem i had was...

i didnt have permission to change permissions on the drive that had been locked due to permissions. (weird, i know) so i booted with the DVD, and repaired and verified with the disk util on disc, rather than in the os.

WORKED FLAWLESSY.

so then i tried installing MacVidia 2b1, but that didnt seem to find my vendor id, when i know its the same card NP has.

anyways. i installed them manually, and it's pretty much exactly how it left my last osx install, except with a little more peace of mind :(

thanks d00ds
