I currently have an athlon 2600+. Was wondering if it is worth switching to a sempron 3000+. The one with sse3. The 2600 runs at 2 gigs. The sempron runs at 1.6. I want to get an amd64 3200 venice. But for the price, maybe the sempron is more reasonable, especially if it is an upgrade over the 2600. Your thoughts. Thank You.

Perhaps you misunderstood my question. Please re-read my original post.

Well, I was implying that a new motherboard was expected since socket a and 754 are completely different. My question is... Is it worth switching over to a sempron 3000. My current cpu is an athlon xp 2600. I really want an amd64 3200 venice but I'm not down to spend that much money. So.... the sempron "looks" appealing and it seems to be pretty close in specs to the athlon 64 venice. They both have sse3. The sempron has 256k L2cache, and the athlon64 has 512. Would you consider a sempron 3000 an upgrade over an athlon xp 2600, and how close is the sempron to the athlon 64? Is it worth it? Thank You.
