Hi all :D

I need new monitor for my computer and I wan't it to be best fit with OS X. I don't know if my 8800GT support 1920x1080 ?? I have problems with my CRTs which using currently and you can see that in this post http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1164936

I thougt about Acer X233HB 23"W http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/42549_Ac...1920x1080_.aspx

I can get it for 140 euros :P But not sure if will work OK with OS X because 16:9 ratio. Is it better to look for some other with 1680x1050 and 20'' or 22''? I am puzzled. I don't want to get blue screen again. Please recomend me some sreen up to 180 euros which 100% work with OS X. It has to be at least 20" and DVI is must have. I use CG and CAD software so would like biger workspace... but if 19x10 resolution is not suported I will have to go with 16x10.

A 8800gt should drive a 2560x1600 dual link monitor or lower, never tried a dual link but my card has no problems with the 1920x1200 I have connected at the moment. Pretty much any monitor should work just make sure that the Core Image/Quartz Extreme is turned on look in the About This Mac -> More Info -> Graphics/Displays to find this information.

Yeah, I kow that 1920x1200 works, but unfortunately I don't have money for quality 24" monitor with DVI. That Acer I was loking is 1920x1080 and that is 16 : 10 ratio. I did not found that resolution supported on any Mac curently avaliable. So I am not sure if would work. I will probably go with regular 1680x1050 and 20" or 22"

You should be fine. Once you plug the monitor in it will show up in System Preferences / Displays and the resolution should be in the list.

10.5.7 has a bug where if you conect a 720p or 1080p display with a native resolution that is higher than the spec for that resolution using HDMI the native resolution will not show up in the display preferences. This is well documented on apples support forum and elsewhere, but if you are using DVI or VGA you should be fine.

My hack runs my 1920x1080 42" TV just fine on my dual setup. There is a problem like noNix was talking about though with the HDMI setup. I use vga (contrary to what retailers want you to believe a good vga cable is not obsolete {censored} hardware), dvi works fine too.

OK, then I'm setting that 23" Acer on top of my list. It will be only screen setup so if does not work I'm screwed. Do anyone know if there is better choice and more quality monitor for up to 180 euros? That Acer don't look so fancy...

It will work. Dont worry. Macs have incredible support for various resolutions.
