There was a fix circulating the boards for iWork 08 by changing the value of the key SRFAcceleratedCanvas in Defaults.plist to false. However, this apparently doesn't work for iWork 09 in 10.5.7. I downloaded an older version of VLC and I am able to watch DVDs with it. I downloaded both 0.8.0 and 0.8.2 and both of them allow DVD playback. I'm sure there are probably others as well but those are the two that I know work.
