Right now I have firefox, word, azureus, dashboard, and finder open. Normally on windows, I would have at least 80 - 100 MB ram left. However, I now have: 76 MB Wired 142 MB Inactive 9 MB Free 283 MB Active 502 MB Used 1GB Swap I dont know what some of ththem, mean but I wanna now why my free ram is only 9 MB xD I hae 512 MB DDR2 ram. Tiburon
Word will suck up a {censored}load of memory because it has to run rosetta, sticking away from PowerPC programs will drastically reduce ram usage. tokyovigilante
Mac OS X is based on BSD. Like BSD it uses system RAM as disk cache to improve performance. This is why you have almost no "free" RAM. However the system will dynamically allocate some of this to applications as required. This is a completely different concept to Windows and is such not comparable. I take it you haven't noticed any performance issues?
