Brandon H
Hello everyone, I've seen a few posts about this but they are outdated and never reach a solution. People generally love to give bad news so I would think everyone would have jumped on those posts in the past and said it was impossible if that were so. I have an Intel 82852/82855 and am unable to get QE/CI Support (though I have Quartz GL). My question is, is it possible to get DVD playback without QE? Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/171893-dvd-playback-without-qeci/ Share on other sites
Dabluest
I believe VLC Media Player will work without Quartz Extreme. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/171893-dvd-playback-without-qeci/#findComment-1183500 Share on other sites
Brandon H
I believe VLC Media Player will work without Quartz Extreme. I downloaded the most recent version of VLC Player (0.9.9a) and I can hear the sound of the DVD but the screen is just black. I've heard other people get similar results when trying this method of watching DVDs without QE. Is there a fix for this or another method? Khan Khan, My video card is a Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller (Mine specifically I believe is the 852GME with a device code of 0x35828086) onboard a Toshiba Satellite A45-S151. I have already Enabled Quartz via OSX86TOOLS and Quartz GL is enabled but QE is not supported. Here is what my System Profiler shows: Display: Type: Display Bus: Built-In VRAM(Total): 64 MB of Shared System Memory Vendor: Intel (0x8086) Device ID: 0x3582 Revision ID: 0x0002 ROM Revision: OpenGL Engine activated via EFI String Kernel Extension Info: No Kext Loaded Display: Resolution: 1024x768 Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Software Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported QuartzGL: Supported Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/171893-dvd-playback-without-qeci/#findComment-1183566 Share on other sites

Beerkex'd
About VLC, you may have to change the default renderer in preferences to get it to work. Brandon H
About VLC, you may have to change the default renderer in preferences to get it to work. Do you mean the "Output module"? I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to change. Beerkex'd
Yes.. I don't think you'll like the result though. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/171893-dvd-playback-without-qeci/#findComment-1183786 Share on other sites
Brandon H
Yes.. I don't think you'll like the result though. In the advanced preferences window, I have the options Mux Module and Access output Mode among many others. There are too many options to try every combination. Do you know some combo that might work for me? I have a feeling it will have something to do with the GL since I was able to get Quartz GL support. I just don't know how to configure it properly in VLC. Beerkex'd
QuartzGL doesn't mean anything as long as you don't have working CI/QE. Just try any setting there (except OpenGL which you obviously cannot use) and see what works. It won't be pretty. Brandon H
Hooray! I got it working. I searched the videolan.org for an older version of VLC and it works. I download VLC Player 0.8.0 it's actually not too slow either. I didn't have to do anything to the video module.
