keith
Is there a way to just add a string to your boot.ini file so you can choose osx? I didn't find one in the search. Thanks guys! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/16801-bootini/ Share on other sites

keith
So is there no way to have the windows boot loader configured to boot osx from another partition? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/16801-bootini/#findComment-108342 Share on other sites
The_Sequencer
Well, if you done with this guide, you´ll able to select "Mac OS X x86" at startup and the Darwin bootloader (chain0 is just the bootloader) will start. Press F8 and there should be one entry, something like hdd0,1, thats it. The Darwin bootloader will automaticly search for OS X installations. If you press ESC at the Darwin bootloader, you´ll get back to the windows bootloader. belgrano
You can use windows bootloader even if you have both of them on the same hdd. But.... - if you have the windows partition set as active partition, the win bootloader is loaded first, then if you go into win is ok. If you choose osx, you enter in darwin bootloader (from osx), where you have to choose again which SO you want to run and the default partition will be windows. Overall to boot into osx you have to choose twice. - if you set osx partition as active partition, darwin bootloader is loaded first, you have to choose and you can run osx. If you choose windows, win bootloader is loaded, so you have to choose again. So, to run windows, you have to make that decision twice. As a conclusion, it's not such a good ideea to use boot.ini for dual boot. Instead you can use Acronis...something or do as I do: use Darwin bootloader. The drawback in that case is that you have osx as the first option to boot and windows as the second option - and you can't change the order. mergedallhere
1. Download the chain0.zip file i attach here and unzip it. Put it in root C:\ 2. Now you have to edit boot.ini that's a hidden file located in C:\. Go to Folder Option>View tab. CHECK "show hidden files and folders" but UNCHECK "hide protected operating system files". Open the boot.ini and add the following line: c:\Chain0="Apple Mac OS X x86" so that your boot.ini looks like this: [boot loader] timeout=5 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect c:\Chain0="Apple Mac OS X x86" 3. Save the boot.ini chain0.zip Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/16801-bootini/#findComment-108467 Share on other sites

keith
Ok I am now having a serious problem...everything is working fine now....USB...everything! BUT, the only way I can boot is if I have the install ation disk in! If I don't It says B0 Error. So I boot into osx, and I try to take the disk out and it locks up... Any Ideas? What it SOUNDS like is that it doesn't have a somthing that helps it boot.
