Link155
So today I finally got OSX installed with 100% of my hardware working, or so I thought! I've been experiencing a very weird lag which I believe my be hardware drivers, and if so, need some help sorting down on the possibilities. The lag only occurs when I'm using more than 1 PCI -or- PCI-E card at the same time. So for instance, being on my desktop, I can easily move windows around with no lag what so ever, but as soon as I start downloading a file through a PCI-Ethernet card, moving the window will be slow (it will still be smooth, but very slow and delayed). If I pause the download, I can continue to move the window around just fine. Same with FTP downloads, when uploading a file from a windows box to osx, as soon as I do anything that requires a lot of graphical work, the upload drops to 1-2kbps, and stays there until I stop. Its almost as if the pipe that brings data down to the pci/pci-e slots suddently got smaller, and can not handle the traffic of 2 or more peripherals. For some hardware info: CPU: P4 (Hyper threading) 3.40GHz Memory: 2.25GB Videocard: ATI x300 PCI-e Network Card: DFE-530TX+ (pci) If anyone has any idea or lead into what the problem could be, please post, I'm lost on where to start looking for a fix. themacmeister
Firstly, have you got working GL/QE/CI ? If so, GREAT. if not, here is where your problem may be. Get those graphics working first. Also, I have the DGE-530T, and have NEVER EVER been able to get it working. I am using RTL8139D based 10/100 now, and it works great - sleep and wake - everything. I am only networked to broadband, so do not need gigabit. Check the HCL for 10.5.x and find a PCIe network card that works (or at least discover the driver everyone is using successfully!). Hope this helps a bit. themacmeister So today I finally got OSX installed with 100% of my hardware working, or so I thought!I've been experiencing a very weird lag which I believe my be hardware drivers, and if so, need some help sorting down on the possibilities. Link155
themacmeister, thanks for the reply! So far, I've only been able to get Core Image to "Software", GL is supported, and QE is not supported. I figured these values were actually true as the x300 is a very old graphics card, and I'm looking into buying another one. The network card worked without the need for me to install any drivers, so I figured that was all set. With your suggestion though, I will definitely be taking a look at that right now. Thanks again!
