Ok, so i want to do this, but i still dont know what to do with the files i downloaded from koalala's DSDT thread. I would also like to know the risks involved. Thanks!

There is no risk to your BIOS AFAIK because the Chameleon bootloader loads the modded DSDT.aml file in the boot directory i.e. / directory over the DSDT file loaded from the BIOS.....

The dsdt.aml file you generate should be renamed to DSDT.aml (if not already DSDT.aml) and copied to your root directory, i.e. / directory......which is the same directory where your kernel is.......

In Terminal

cd /
ls

you should see mach_kernel, plus other files (also normally hidden on desktop) plus the directories such as System that you see normally....

If your dsdt.aml is on your Desktop directory, then

sudo mv /Volumes/Your OS X HDD/Users/"Your username"/Desktop/dsdt.aml /Volumes/Your OS X HDD/Users/"Your username"/Desktop/dsdt.aml
cp /Volumes/Your OS X HDD/Users/"Your username"/Desktop/DSDT.aml /
ls

you should now see DSDT.aml and mach_kernel, plus other files (also normally hidden on desktop) plus the directories such as System that you see normally....

Can you tell me which tab i go into in koalala's patcher, and what files i select to patch, and where i paste them? this is all unclear to me. Once I have done that, then what do i do?

How do i generate this dsdt.aml file? dont i need one to start off with?

You really need to read for the posts in Koalala's thread to better understand what all its options do it does before using it......It is best that I do not try to tell you directly because I have not personally used it to generate a DSDT.aml file because my system does not need use a modded DSDT......

My understanding is that it will extract the current DSDT from the BIOS, patch it as you instruct from the options in the Patcher window, compile it and then allow you to export it as DSDT.aml file.....

I have read, but i dont understand where to get a .aml file, which im supposed to patch. Im supposed to put in a .aml file, but i dont know where im supposed to get it from

any ideas?

See my post above......

How do you extract it from the bios? it asks for a location of the original .aml file, but i dont know where it is located.

Do you know?

Download the same BIOS version as on your MOBO currently from your MOBO support website onto your Windows Desktop and patch it using the option for generating DSDT.aml.....

ffs, i dunno which of these is my mobo:

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc...mp;prod_no=1470

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc...mp;prod_no=1590

They are very similar, but i dont want to get the wrong bios.

Any way to find out?

Go into your BIOS setup and see what the current version is......also check what the maximum FSB value is that you can set.....1333 or 1600.....

i think i found it...

i believe it is the one with version 3.50 for the bios. but, if i am wrong, can i experience problems? or no, because im not installing it?

also, it gives me a .exe file and a "350 file". What should i do from here?

Ok, heres all the info i have:

I have uploaded 2 screenshots SANDRA testing my hardware. According to it, my maximum FSB value is 1.33 GHz.

Now, id be happy to mod my bios, but i want to be 100% sure it will work. If you cannot guarantee this, then what are my options for a patched bios file?

@ Lambros

As I said there is always a degree of risk when flashing a BIOS.......even MOBO manufacturers admit that......so no one will give you or anyone else a 100% guarantee even if the number of failed flashhings is generally small.....hence: OSXCORES TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR A BAD BIOS FLASH, NOR USE OF THE WRONG BIOS PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION & AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

What are the full file names of the .exe and "350" file....?

As I said you can download the BIOS file onto your Windows Desktop and have a go at using Koalala's DSDT software to extract, patch and save a modified DSDT.aml file......or you can decide to ask OriginalMACNUT to mod the BIOS for you......

I saw this:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...hp/t163142.html

I saw someone say, that it doesnt matter which if your mobo is one of about 5 diff models, as long as it is G31M3. So, does that mean I can use the 7528 flasher from the website you gave me, as long as my mobo is G31M3?

Thanks!

The files are:

AFUD4281.exe and

A7528IMS.350

But, it might be the other bios file, im not quite sure yet.

I guess the safest approach would be to use a modded BIOS based on the same BIOS version as on your MSI G31M3 MOBO currently......which you say is MS-7528.....putting AFUD4281.exe and the modded BIOS on a MS-DOS bootable USB memory stick.....see here......and for BIOS flashing in general see here.....

Ok,

I have figured that if the max FSB value is 1.3 GHz, then the following:

The file is actually called

AFUD4234.exe with a 120 file called A7528IMS.120.

Im supposing i put the modded bios and the AFUD4234.exe onto a USB, boot into it and hope it works?

What can i do if this fails? Will my mobo be bricked or is there a way to restore it? Is there something i can do now, so if it fails i can restore?

Is it true that any G31M3 mobo can be used with the 7528 modded bios?

Is patching the bios no longer an option due to unavailability of files?

Thanks!

You can contact OriginalMACNUT and ask him directly.......

Is it possible to use ACPI (DSDT) patcher by koalala to patch my bios?

If you know how, please tell me, although i suppose i patch the 120 file, then use that with the .exe to boot and patch the mobo.

Thanks!

EDIT: With the patcher i was able to not only create a modded bios file, but i was also able to create a dsdt.aml file. it was patched, but now i dont know what to do with the dsdt. isnt this a safer method.

What do i do now? Thanks!

As I said in an earlier post in this thread you need to use Chameleon 2.0RC1 bootloader with the DSDT.aml file placed in the /Extra directory that you will see after installing Chameleon 2.0RC1......

I did all you said, put it in the extras folder, and booted into the usb.

Up popped the chameleon bootloader. I typed -v and hit enter. I saw unusual text (not in the same format as usually). Then it got further, and further, until...

I saw the installer. I am so happy now. Thank you so much for all your help verdant. I am especially happy because I didnt have to flash my bios. For all who have a G31M3 (FSB-1600) mobo, ill be posting a tutorial with files on how I did it due to my extremely happy mood. I modded DSDT.aml to do so, and i'll show you how soon.

Thanks again verdant for all your help, you put a lot of time into this, and I truly appreciate it.

THANK YOU!

Glad using DSDT.aml approach worked for you.....otherwise you would be between a rock and a hard place!.......look forward to you writing your experience up as a tutorial as it will save both of us time helping others with the same G31M3 (FSB-1600) MOBO as yourself......
