OK here are my recommended BIOS settings: IOAPIC Function [Enabled] MPS Table Version [1.4] Execute Bit Support [Enabled] Set Limit CPUID MaxVal to 3 [Disabled] HPET [Enabled] On-Chip IDE Controller [Enabled] PCI IDE Busmaster [Disabled] AFAIK some claim that there is no real benefit to having this option enabled......that is using the MOBO chipset PCI/IDE bridge to do data transfer by DMA rather than PIO (i.e. programmed I/O).....it was only of real benefit to true DOS systems......speeding up the boot process......however, modern OS's do their own bus mastering by-passing BIOS bus mastering as soon as the OS drivers are loaded.....furthermore, it can cause problems when you only have an optical drive and no HDD on the IDE cable... On-Chip SATA Controller [Enabled] RAID Mode [?] What options do you have here other than IDE? Are any greyed out....? Do the available options change if you Enable PCI IDE Busmastering or not..... ACPI Function [Enabled] ACPI Standby State [s3] Intel EIST [Disabled] Hard Disk SMART [Disabled] Can be [Enabled] after installation.....if [Enabled] initially can sometimes can cause a SMART error when booting from Install DVD Primary Graphics Adapter Set [PCI-E] Spread Spectrum [Disabled] Disabling improves performance Guessing if this is what you have for USB parameters.... USB Legacy [Enabled] USB 2.0 or High Speed [Enabled] USB Keyboard/Mouse [Enabled] Your photos of your DVDRW IDE cable indicate it is a 80 wire cable and it is registering as an IDE Master.......so it is likely that your IDE DVDRW is jumpered as Master or Cable Select..... The reason I have not considered a USB HDD install route is that I believe you need a DSDT modded BIOS......either made using fassl's DSDT patcher (see link in my post #1) if you can install OS X but only run it using cpus=1 or get a modded bios from OriginalMACNUT.......I think a modded BIOS for your system may be available.....(MS)-7528v12 or more likely (MS)-7529 G31M3-F V2 or, if not, he could maybe mod the MSI BIOS from here that matches your system.... I say this because another poster here has only just installed OS X using XxX 10.5.6 (a very good distro sadly now discontinued by BlackCH) successfully but also only with disabled USB Legacy mode, cpus=1 -v....... Only being able to run with cpus=1 usually indicates the need for a modded DSDT BIOS or DSDT.aml file (see my post #1)...... Anyway, i can boot up the image in vmware and create a virtual OS. Is there a way to install Mac to a real partition on my computer? Is there a way to make the Mac in VMWare "see" these partitions? Enter single user mode using the -s flag while booting i.e. type -s at the "boot:" prompt and wait for the prompt ":/ root#" to appear, type each of the following lines at the prompt, followed by Enter and then waiting for ":/ root#" to re-appear. mount -uw rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleSMC.kext rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext rm -rf /System/Library/Caches/* exit Reboot with -v -f and report what happens...... It shows that AppleSMC.kext alone is not the cause of your problems.......it appears that you are back to your "bad" BIOS issue (hence cpus=1 being required for successful booting)...... You can try using koalala's ACPI (DSDT) Patcher for BIOS and AML using another PC with Windows and .NET Framework installed to generate a DSDT.aml file that you then put in the /Extras folder of the Chameleon 2.0RC1 bootloader.... A DSDT-modded BIOS or a DSDT.aml file in /Extras are your ONLY two options.......if the latter does not work, then if you want to run OS X properly a modded BIOS is your only option.....
