atoria
I will soon purchase a dell laptop and thought it would be nice if I knew with 99% certainty that I could load Leopard and Windows to have a nice little dual boot machine. The only problem is that I find tons of hardware compatibility posts/forums for Desktops, but not so many for laptops. Please, I ask that if you are a OSx86 laptop user who has successfully installed Leopard, post the following: Make/Model Laptop: (dell inspiron d800, etc) Processor: (2.23 intel dual core, etc) Video: (nVidia 8600M, etc) RAM: (1Gb, 2Gb, etc) Installer Package: (ie iAtkos, Kallaway, etc) Installer Details: (anything sneaky or tricky you had to do to install) Post-Installation Defects: (ie can't restart, can't install anything, etc) It will not only help me out, but I am sure it will help the community as well. Thank You <3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/160995-looking-for-laptop-osx86-success-stories/ Share on other sites
chmod-uk
Make/Model Laptop: (dell inspiron 1520) Processor: (core2duo 1.5ghz) Video: (Intel GMAX3100) RAM: (2Gb) Installer Package: (xxx 10.5.6 rev1b) Installer Details: (Use boot flag -X for installation only. Pick BCM440x for ethernet and sigmatel 9205,HDAEnabler for sound. That's it!) Post-Installation Defects: (Needs a hotcorner to wake the display up after each bootup but display sleep works fine with system settings. Shutdown, reboot and sleep work fine, closing lid doesn't sleep or turn off backlight though. Other than that it's a complete macbook!) Must mention that the hotcorner is only needed for Intel gmax3100 gfx, i think others like nvidia are fine. icyfire
don't know whether you're open to netbooks but the Dell mini 9 works perfectly with retail Leopard booting with EFI. In fact, it is considered the most compatible system for osx on the market right now. Everything works including the webcam. And it is also rock solid with nearly no stability issues. Go to mydellmini.com for more info. chmod-uk
chmod-uk, What type of OSx86 did you install? ie Kalyway I have problems booting from the DVD on my Inspiron 1520, and really really would appreciate help! My laptop just loads the DOS menu with coding and then just hangs and doesn't load anymore coding Matt It's called something like "XxX 10.5.6 rev1b" In fact i even have a retail 10.5.6 disc and that installed fine also with boot-132. Anyway if you do a search for "xxx 10.5.6" you'll find it, i think it's doing the rounds on usenet but i got it through bit torrent. Yeah, the only thing i checked was the ethernet card bcm440x and sound sigmatel 9205. Everything else uses the standard apple drivers. My gfx are gmax3100 and didn't even have to select the driver it just works including QE/CI and display sleep! Very happy with this as my main system now. Give us a shout if you need help.
