ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS hackintosh guide

I'm not a hackintosh master, but my first move would be get to test with other dvd drives, SATA and IDE. I use a Asus one, not sure about the model, but it has lightscribe,(consulting the hardware profiler...) its a ASUS DRW-20B1LT. The boxed version has the black and the white faceplate. They cost like 50US$ in Brazil, should cost you not much over a weekend mall expense, or ask a friend for one, its x-mas  -- The key thing in hackintosh: test. ask your neighboor if you can get his drive to test. Worst case scenario is a kernel panic and a fresh installation of OSX, its no biggie!

Hi All:

I am a noob to the Hackintosh thing. couple of weeks ago i picked up a Q6700 and a asus P5KPL-AM board

1 stick of 2gb pc6400 simm and a asus 8400gs video card. I follow japogiii guide, spent 7 or 8 nights,

and i got myself a dual boot ideneb 1.4 machine. everything seemed to work except I have no luck trying to play DVD movie. DVD player refuse to load up. DVD drive (sata), reads and install the os.

my question is, is this a DVD firmware issue or is it a problem that is common??

btw, i also did a clean install with no XP loaded using ideneb 1.4, works well except again

for the DVD player issue.

i used the AzaliaAudio.pkg for sound, RTGMac_v2.0.3 from the realtek downloads for network

NVdarwin256 video driver patch within ideneb 1.4. also had to use a couple of patches with

the word POWER in it to shutdown and sleep properly.

1 also tried ipc 10.5.6, using the same set of drivers. came out also with good result.

again though no DVD player. with the ipc, the system profiler cannot determine my setup. a minor issue.

anyway, the drive is "LG Super Multi DVD writer GH22NS50".

any pointers is appreciated.

thank you very much for the quick response. I have figured that part out already (solved).

I had to open the DVD player without a disk first. then put in the movie. OSX will prompt me to enter a country zone number, once i enter the zone code. the DVD player works.

my only other problem right now is sleep, i thought shutdown works, then the sleep must work too. Not true. So far i have tried the Pystar Shutdown and restart. Shut down and restart works fine. Sleep does not work. Perhaps the patch is written for duo core processors Mine has 4 cores, so the patch could not shut down the other 2 properly. No big annoyance to me though.

i got the sound (out) working, network working, wireless working, video working.

i got the ideneb duo boot with XPpro. also a stand alone ideneb. i now am testing ipc 10.5.6. on the

p5kpl-am with q6700 overclock to 3.2ghz. running too hot on osx though. 49 to 50 degrees celsius at the desktop with the firefox open but doing nothing.

I'm planning to buy a 1TB SATA-II Hard Drive this month.

Will my SATA Hard Drive show up on disk utility on the installation of OSX? Or do I have to set something in the BIOS?

(Actually, my hard drive is a 80GB IDE)

(I'm using a P5KPL-AM motherboard)

Thx =)

I am guessing you may need to replace ide DVD drive with a SATA drive.

be sure you have the correct video driver

of course, -v boot option to see what part of the installation is stalling.

good luck.

as mentioned in previous post, you cannot use the onboard video. have to install a Nvidia, ATI card

@ernust

Have you completed the installation with iDeneb v1.4 ?

I have the same motherboard using the integerated graphics card gma3100. It couldn't even begin to install for all Leopard versions I have gotten.

Please hekp!

I cant get the audio onboard to be fully working (i mean only get output sound, no input, no front panel)

I downloaded the Azalia driver recommended by MAkabre, I read all this post, but what I get is just output in rear panel.

Does anyone have the same problem?

Does anyone who could help me?

thanks in advance

Are You using a SATA HD or IDE HD?

A sata hard disk and a ide dvd-r/w cdrom was used in my pc.

The property of dsdt.aml is -rw-r--r--@, but when i compiled a new dsdt.aml ,its property was -rw-r--r-- and it can be seen in the finder. What is the mening of "@" ? How can i change that and hide the file?

Amigo, I installed IPC 10.5.6 on that board. Had to put IOPCIFamily.kext, Intel ICHx SATA, JMIcron Ata, Conexant Hi DEf Audio, and realtek r1000. Worked Fine :D. I installed my 9400 GT EVGA 1 gb graph card with NVInject. Then just installed an hex string. Now has everything supported :D . BTW I still dont feel it like a real mac but still its pretty good. Hope this helps to p5kpl-am se users.

My specs:

Asus p5kpl-am se

1 GB ddr2 667 ULTRA

EVGA 9400 GT 1 GB

Seagate 80 GB IDE HDD

LG DVD Multi combo IDE

Intel DualCore 2.5 GHz

Thats IT!, and I dont think that some of the computers fail because of IDE DVD Drives. Thats pure b+%%l$!it xD

I have the exact setup too, the only difference is that I have a 80GB IDE Hard Drive.

Everything is working fine here, I used iPC 10.5.6, in some days I am going to install iDeneb Lite 10.5.8

Anybody had success installing iDeneb 10.5.8 Lite on this motherboard? If so can you post your settings please?

BTW I have an ATI x1600Pro video card. Installation went fine, but now will only boot in Safe Mode. In standard mode it freezes shortly after loading the video drivers. I've tried many different drivers, and I'm pretty sure I have the right one now as in Safe mode it loads fine, lets me change the resolution, etc...

I tried iDeneb 10.5.6

couldnt get the Realtek 8102el to work and the ALC662.

What are the best recent kext/drivers for this hardware?

Is it a better idea to install snow leopard 10.6.2?

Everything else worked properly 8500GT silent with NVinject 0.2.1 (256mb)

Used voodoo 9.5.0 kernel for the P4 HT processor.

Sleep/Shutdown worked great.

For USB kernel panic had to use the IOUSBMassStorageClass205.kext

Thanks for help

One more success with Leopard on P5KPL-AM / PS mother board. Except input sound, Every thing working on my machine.

Hardware i have:

MotherBoard: P5KPL-AM/PS

Hard Disk: WD 320 GB

Ram: 4 GB

Processor: C2D 2.9 GHz

Graphic Card: ZOTAC nVidia GeForce 9400GT 1024 MB

It would take around 2 days to setup my nvidia graphic card. But it is working fine now. So here i am sharing my experience. I install "NVIDIA 9000 Series drivers" Just google to search this package and than i used OSX86Tools to configure my card.

Here how i used osxTools:

  • Open OSX86Tools
  • Click on "Add EFI String/Boot Flag"
  • Click on "GFX String"
  • Choose "Custom GeForce" from Graphic Cards drop down. Because 9400GT is not listed there.
  • Put the name of my graphic card "nVidia GeForce 9400GT
  • New dialog box appears , asking for the VRAM. i put 1024MB taht's what my VRAM is
  • Than click on "Import string to the boot editor"
  • Than click on the button "Apply change to com.apple.Boot.plist" and here you down

Than restart your machine and enjoy all features of your Graphic card.

I deleted 10.5.8 and installed 10.6.2V3.6.

ausus : p5kpl-am se

zotac : 9400GT

It works finely in 32bit since i have't found RTL8102e 64bit driver.

Would be nice if you shared install info and other bits and pieces. I have installed

Snow Leo on P5K-Pro but it's different to this AM/PS or PE board.

  • 3 months later...

super !!!! just need to find a link for download the correct extension for the lan

Hello. This is japogiii, and this is my first post here.

This is my guide into getting a PERFECT HACKINTOSH working on an ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS motherboard. (G31+ICH7 chipset)

PERFECT HACKINTOSH means that everything works, including USB, sound, video with QE/CI enabled, sleep, restart, and shutdown.

I have spent almost three days without sleep trying to get this thing to work, and the final result is that it works just as Steve Jobs would have intended.

Here are the important parts which I used for this computer:

Processor: Pentium Dual Core e5200 (2 cores @ 2.5 ghz each)

Motherboard: ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS

Hard Drive: 80 GB Samsung (IDE)

500 GB Seagate (SATA)

DVD Drive: LG Internal Super Multi DVD Rewriter 22x (SATA)

RAM: 2 GB Kingston Value Ram 800mhz DDR2

Graphics Card: Sparkle 9600GT 512mb PCI-E

Install method is through iDeneb v1.4 (10.5.6)

BIOS Settings

Here are the BIOS settings I used for the P5KPL-AM/PS motherboard. BIOS settings are important to get full sleep, shutdown and restart working.

Primary IDE Master: 80 GB Samsung

SATA: 500 GB Seagate

SATA2: LG DVD

ATA/IDE Config: Enhanced

Enhanced Mode Support On: S-ATA

Onboard PCIE GbE LAN: Disabled

(I disabled the onboard LAN because I use a Netgear Wireless USB anyway.)

Plug and Play O/S: Yes

Suspend Mode: S3 Only

ACPI 2.0 Support: Enabled

Restore on AC Power Loss: Power Off

Boot Device Priority

1st: HDD Samsung

2nd: DVD LG

Partitioning the Drive and Dualbooting with XP

Refer to this guide

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...DualBoot_10.5.2

BUT INSTEAD of Kalyway 10.5.2,

substitute it with iDeneb v1.4.

You know where to find it. ;)

Customize the installation, and check these boxes for this particular setup:

ICHX support (because this P5KPL-AM/PS is a G31/ICH7 chipset)

nvDarwin 512 mb (for the 9600GT videocard)

I didn't check anything for sound, because this is going to be patched later on.

Install. Then it will reboot. Follow the rest of the instructions on

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...DualBoot_10.5.2

for bootloading.

If you did everything correctly, boot into the OS X partition and you should see the welcome video. (Nice, eh. QE/CI enabled already) but no sound.

Get the sound drivers here, and install:

http://www.kexts.com/index.php?controller=...ext=5&kid=7

Last, go to system preferences -> energy saver.

Under options, check "Allow power button to sleep the computer."

Also check "Restart automatically after a power failure."

And there you go. A fully working, 10.5.6 OS X Leopard on your HACKINTOSH.

Enjoy. :(

Please comment if you encounter any problems, or if this guide has helped you in any way.
