Mywk
Hi All, First here is my story: I used Windows for years and every year i had a new problem with it and projects i made for microsoft, I'm not going to describe those problems but some days ago i made another project for my school for a microsoft contest and it ranked 2º when it should be CLEARLY FIRST, the idea was great and project was 101% working and better than all other basic projects and ideas! Anyway i said "THATS IT, GOOD BYE MICROSOFT" So.. I spent some time on linux.. and.. Bah... until i get my hands on MAC and i was like.. AWSOME! So, since i currently have no money to buy a MAC computer i decided to make my laptop into a MAC I'm a new user and i hope to stay in this Forum/Community the most time possible and to help out other users who have any kind of problems i can help with. Now, My Problem: I have Notebook HP Pavilion DV5 1040 1- Downloaded iDeneb_v1.4_10.5.6 2- Tried to install, now i had "waiting for root device" problem, i think its because HD is set to SATA so I'm going to try something 3- Tried to install to a Usb pen from a old computer but when i put the pen on my Notebook it still says "waiting for root device", so i really have to set SATA to IDE Problem: I cant put my HD to SATA because there is no option to do that in my BIOS. I dont know its version i only saw this reference numbers in BIOS: INSYDEHD, 3063, F3 4- For 2 days i tried to change my BIOS from the one i have to a modded one but i found no Modded BIOS for my Notebook, its a INSYDE Bios and i was trying to edit it with Phoenix Bios Editor Problem: I cant put my HD to SATA because there is no option to do that in my BIOS. I dont know its version i only saw this reference numbers in BIOS: INSYDEHD, 3063, F3 5- Here i am, finally did to register InsanelyMac so i can ask for help: My BIOS is the following one, can someone try to edit it or unlock it? (mod it) Or there is any other wait to do this? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...product=3767335 Thanks In Advance, Best Regards, Mywk Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/156297-help-hp-pavilion-dv5-1040/ Share on other sites

lukamar
Ok guy, i've a very similar laptop to you. We have intel ich9m chipset, sata HD, sata DVD. After a very intense work of search and tests, i can affirm that the only way to boot leopard from our laptop is: 1 - Boot from internal dvd device with -v flag, after you have pushed F8 button. 2 - When you read "Still waiting for..." error, you take off the ideneb dvd, and you put it in a external usb dvd (or connected by eSATA). 3 - Wait...and leopard starts!!! Alternative ways is update the firmware or replace dvd device..you shouldn't modify bios. I've a NO working Optiarc AD-7561S, and you? Bye PS: If you find a software solution, plz tell me!! Hey Mate, I have Optiarc AD-7561S also and the DVD starts from it but it hangs on "Still waiting for root device". So the problem is from DVD Driver being SATA and not from the HD? I will buy a IDE or SATA to USB converter and then try your method with one of my desktop drivers. Yes the problem is dvd drive!! With eSATA port, in left side of notebook, you can directly connect your desktop's sata dvd to notebook. salax
HI there, i got an HP Pavilion dv5-1080ev which has a limited settings BIOS. Although i managed to install 10.5.6 i have a bounch of problems afterwards. First, booting is a 50-50 situation. It will boot when it feels like doing so :-) Then, i can't use USB. Everytime i plug a USB device (no matter what) the system freezes. It won't boot if i have the USB device plugged before power! Then i have no audio on it. Not to mention the Wifi seems to have no drivers... Any help appreciated! salax
Alright, some improvements.. Got VoodooHDA.kext and had it installed using Kext Helper. That took care of the audio, after i removed the Appleazaliaaudio.kext from the Extensions Then i tried the usb fix 1.3 package, which installed, but the only change now is that plugging a USB device will not freeze the system. (Profiler detects devices, but the system will not mount them) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/156297-help-hp-pavilion-dv5-1040/#findComment-1333305 Share on other sites
Bruce Wang
You might need patched IOUSBFamily.kext and IOPCIFamily.kext from Slice. You can find the kext in Project OSX forum. salax
@Bruce Wang: Thanks for your fast reply! I gave it a try with Slice's kexts, but nothing changed... Bear in mind, that this laptop has a very limited BIOS menu, thus, i can't do any changes that involve the hardware (legacy, video, SATA, etc.) It actually is a miracle it even works as is! But having no USB is making it crippled... Startup has gone normal btw, (no crashes, allways boots). A probably very big detail is that Kernel is 9.6.0 and system.kext is 9.2.0 I can't find a clear and easy way to update the System.kext though so as to make it match the Kernel version. A direct link would really help there too. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/156297-help-hp-pavilion-dv5-1040/#findComment-1333694 Share on other sites
