demoniac Posted February 24, 2009 Share Posted February 24, 2009 Hi! Thought I should post this. I've tested a lot of different options to get this working, and finally, i managed! This guide is based on a GeForce 6200 TurboCache 64MB from nVidia, with VGA, DVI and S-Video/Composite output. But will work for a lot of cards, if not all. I guess a lot of people know how to do this, but I thought I should help those who don't know, so that they easily can fix their problems. - You will need a USB-stick (that's the easiest way) - The kext you are going to edit. (NATIT/NVKust/NVinject etc) We're now going to extract your VGA-BIOS! OK, here we go: 1. Download this program: SP27213.exe to make your stick bootable. 2. Download this zip-file, which includes DOS for your stick: USBImage.zip 3. Install the first program. 4. Extract the zip-file to your desktop 5. Start the first program, choose your device, then "FAT", choose "Create a DOS startup disk" and browse the folder you just extracted. Then click start. 6. Download the zip-file nvflash: nvflash.zip 7. Extract to your newly formated USB-stick. (It can look empty, but really, it isn't ) 8. Boot from your stick. You will need to configure your BIOS to do so. Remember some USB-sticks are recognized as a HDD, so you will need to configure it correctly. 9. When at dos-prompt, write: cd nvflash (enter) nvflash.exe --save VGA-BIOS.ROM You can call VGA-BIOS.ROM whatever you want, e.g. 6200TB64MB.ROM etc. to identify easily (nVidia 6200 TurboCache 64MB) 10. Hopefully, your VGA-BIOS is now stored at your USB-stick. 11. Ctrl+Alt+Del, and remove your stick to boot back to OS X. Puh.. Okey, now we've gotten this far. You have your VGA-BIOS.ROM on your stick, and we're logging into OS X. Moving on: 12. Copy the VGA-BIOS.ROM from your stick over to the OS X' desktop. 13. Download NVCAPmaker, so that we can extract your NVCAP: NVCAP_Maker_1.4.zip 14. Extract and run NVCAP Maker, and choose the VGA-BIOS.ROM you've just created and copied over. 15. Now you should get a 40-character length number, just copy it. 16. Download a Plist Editor 17. Drag and drop your kext over to the installed Plist Editor. 18. Doubleclick info.plist, click the triangle next to "IOKITPersonalities", then "NATIT", "entriesToAdd" then replace the value for "NVCAP" (the spaces will be set automatically, so just paste the NVCAP-value we copied earlier) 19. Save the kext. Well, would you look at that. You have a kext you configured all on your own! You deserve a little break now, before the final: 20. To be sure that you won't get a conflict, you need to delete some files (don't worry, they will be built up at next boot) 21. Navigate to /System/Library/Extencions/ and delete the NATIT/NVkush/NVinject etc you might have there. (you will need to type your password) 22. Go one folder up to /System/Library/ and delete Extensions.mkext (need password here to) Now, for the final steps: 23. To do this easily, download Kext Helper: Kext_Helper_b7.app.zip 24. Open it up, and drag & drop your modified kext into Kext Helper. 25. Write in your password, and GO! 26. Now, do as the program tells you, cross your fingers, and reboot. Worked for me! I'm including a kext for nVidia 6200 Turbocache 64MB, so they will just have to install via Kext Helper. Download here: Natit_for_6200TC.zip Also including the VGA-BIOS-ROM: 6200TC64.zip I hope this guide was useful for anyone. I noticed most of the downloads necessary to get this done are nVidia related, would this method work for ATi cards also? I guess you would have to download some other programs, but in general, I guess the method of creating the kext is the same. Guess I should have marked it a little better.. At least how to edit the kext that's already working OK, to make it perfect for your card. I managed to get full hardware acceleration, dual monitor, +++ And I'm pretty sure DVI works too! I know your intentions are good but this should be in the Genius Bar (Tutorials) forum.Nice guide if this really works, though. So... Can anyone move this thread to the Genius Bar? But if you're stuck, and can't get your card to work perfectly, try my method. It's only like 20-30min. CrimsonAngel Posted November 15, 2009 Share Posted November 15, 2009 thanks allot for this, it not only got me dual screens but it fixed my screens from flashing blue when watching video or moving things. I am however very interested in a way to get this to work with ATI cards, I know someone already asked but I'm just wondering if you or anyone else found out anything new.
