Vertimyst Posted February 22, 2009 Share Posted February 22, 2009 Hi, I'm trying to boot OSX in VirtualBox, running in Puppy Linux. The image I'm using works perfectly in VMWare in Windows, but Windows takes up the RAM needed to run OSX smoothly, so I wanted to try it in Puppy since it doesn't use much RAM. When I start up the VM in Linux, I get this output: hi mem tramps at 0xffe00000 PAE enabled standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us vm page bootstrap: 85421 free pages mig_table_max_displ = 71 Local APIC version not 0x14 as expected Enabling XMM register save/restore and SSE/SSE2 opcodes ACPI CA 20060421 And stops there. I'm not sure if it's because I'm using VirtualBox instead of VMWare, if my settings are wrong, or if it's something with Puppy. Here are my settings for the VM: [General settings] Name: Mac OSX OS Type: FreeBSD (this was the setting used in the working VMWare setup) Base memory: 350 MB Video memory: 8 MB Boot order: Floppy, CD/DVD-ROM, Hard Disk ACPI: Enabled (Note that I disable it to boot Puppy, else sound doesn't work, among other things - I've tried various combinations of ACPI on in Puppy and on in VBox, off in Puppy and off in VBox, etc) IO APIC: Disabled VT-x AMD-V: Disabled (this option is greyed out) PAE/NX: Enabled [Hard disks] IDE Primary Master: OSX.vmdk (Writethrough. 10.00 GB) [CD/DVD ROM] Not mounted [Floppy] Not mounted [Audio] Host driver: ALSA Audio Driver Controller: ICH AC97 [Network] Adapter 1: PCnet FAST-III (nat) [Serial Ports] Disabled [USB] Device filters: 0 (0 active) [Shared Folders] None [Remote Display] Disabled Any suggestions? I think I may try it with VMWare in Linux if I can. Vertimyst Posted February 23, 2009 Author Share Posted February 23, 2009 That doesn't really make sense, since VirtualBox is so similar to VMware. Doesn't matter, though. I installed VMware in Arch Linux, works great, a bit faster compared to running it in Windows. All I need is a RAM upgrade and I'm good to go. Read this post http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=172474. VirtualBox is not the same as VMware and specific hardware has to be emulated or passed through to boot and install Mac OS X. Currently VB does not have enough of the virtual hardware to install OSX.
