I've been looking to build a new computer using a Core 2 Quad socket 775 processor. What I really wanted was a board that could run OS X Vanilla Kernel and be pretty good out-of-box, but I don't want to pay over 100 dollars for the board either. I read up on the hardware pages in the osx86 database and found that Gigabyte seemed to be the best type of board to get. My question, however, is a little different. I have been an ASUS fanboy for years and years, and I tend to pick them as I have had no problems whatsoever with their customer support or the board itself. The question I have is: Is Gigabyte as reliable or in fact more reliable (in everyones opinions of course) than ASUS. Do they tend to last a long time assuming they are taken care of? Also, what would be a good board for the price and the level of compatibility?

I have two. They are nothing but amazing. I have a G33M-S2H and a EP45-UD3R. Gigabyte does very well on their durability, low power consumption, and heat. I paid less than $100 for each. the BIOS is a little bare on the S2H, but the EP45 should have plenty of tweaks available, not to mention dual BIOS.

Gigabyte has brought up their standards, and ASUS seems to be dropping theirs. I was an ASUS only type of guy and still have a P5K-VM. I have had increasing issues with ASUS I am on my 3rd P5K-VM. I am really impressed with what Gigabyte is producing. The Gigabyte P45 series is quite impressive for the money, and I would highly recommend it.
