trexplorer
I wanted a fresh install after so many updates but wanted to control which kexts I added and why. And ... I wanted to keep things as "Vanilla" as possible. This guide is for people that have a working install and want to create a new clean install on a 2nd partition (or drive). You should already have a GUID volume and Chameleon efi bootloader installed on your target drive. If you don't have Chameleon efi installed, use OSX86Tools to install. Download OSX86Tools & DSDTPatcherGUI from ######.com 1) In Finder, Load your OS X Leopard 10.5.6 Apple CD (the Vanilla one from Apple - no hacks or mods ...) 2) Finder menu "Go to Folder" /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/ and run OSInstall.mpkg. Choose your new partition & install (~7 minutes) 3) Add dsmos.kext or AppleDecrypt.kext using terminal or OSx86Tools 4) Delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and Repair Permissions With little effort, You now have a new bootable 10.5.6 partition at the Darwin Prompt. And it's almost entirely Vanilla ... Now to get devices/apps working. Again I wanted to minimize changes and keep the system as Vanilla as possible. For instance the addition of a new kext to enable restarts is preferred to modification of an Apple kext. Also device ID changes were preferred to other hacks, keeping things as "Apple" as possible ... 5) Add AppleVIATA.kext w correct device ID's to fix SATA Boot support 6) Add AppleAHCIPort.kext w correct device ID's to fix Generic AHCI in System Profiler 7) Add IOAHCIFamily.kext w correct device ID's to fix Orange desktop Drive icons 8) Add JMicronATA.kext w correct device ID's to fix IDE support (crashes a lot so I don't use IDE) 9) Add AppleHDA.kext (HDAEnabler.kext isn't needed in most cases) 10.5.5 version fr Taruga to fix Audio 10) Add RealtekR1000.kext from Psystar to fix Bonjour problem 11) Add IONetworkingFamily.kext to fix TimeMachine backup problem 12) Add AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext to fix Info under System Profiler 13) Add OpenHaltRestart.kext to fix Restart problem 14) Add optional kexts for ps2 or any other special hardware 15) Add efi string for your Video Card with efi studio (www.mediafire.com/download.php?gmmz2yddyto) 16) Add dsdt.aml to your hard drive root by running DSDTPAtcherGUI (doesn't seem to do anything on this board) You can install multiple kexts with OSx86Tools by holding down the command key when selecting (one step for installation of all kexts in steps 3 thru 14 ....) Repair permissions and you're good to go. I like installing from the desktop as it eliminates many hassles having to do with booting and it's much faster. Cheers ... 11 Mar-09 edited & simplified instructions 20 Feb-09 edited comment re HDAEnabler.kext. 18 Feb-09 added OpenHaltRestart instruction. T286
Thanks for posting this trexplorer, One thing though, I did have to install the HDAEnabler.kext to enable audio. Other than that my install went flawlessly. Just out of interest has anyone been able to enable 6 Channel audio with this board? Konami®
For the restart and shutdown solution I use VoodooPower 1.2.3, works like a charm! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/153407-1056-on-gigabyte-ga-p35-ds3l-v2/#findComment-1101713 Share on other sites

Funny about HDAEnabler.kext, mine works perfectly with only AppleHDA.kext. Anyway both kexts are included in the package. Perhaps it has to do w BIOS settings or version. I will update the package shortly to replace dsmos.kext with AppleDecrypt.kext and the addition of a disabler.kext to eliminate removal of AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and futureproof the install ... Cheers (p.s., also developing a similar procedure for my Dell 6400 laptop ...)
