After spending around a week researching the OSX 86 project and working/recommended gear i decided to jump in head first and sell my macbook to break even on a decent setup that ended up costing $900 USD/$1400 AUSD.

WESTERN DIGITAL - CAVIAR 1TB (1000GB) 7200RPM SERIAL ATA-300 (SATA-II) 16MB BUFFER 3.5INCH INTERNAL HARD DISK DRIVE.

Working- 99%

All the inputs on the mobo backpanel worked 100% out of the box except the line in/out (sound) inputs which were later fixed with the right kext's.

Haven't tried burning dvd's yet, but the system profiler detects it 100% with no problems, so should work fine. Both hdd's work fine and leopard reads/writes to the NTFS windows xp separate hdd with Macfuse (Bundled with IPC 10.5.6)

Graphics card all working fine 100%
QE
- enabled
QGL
- enabled, currently running dual monitors at 1920x1200 @ 60hz

Although it wasn't listed, it might be worth noting that my A3 intuos wacom worked 100% out of the box with the drivers supplied on the generic CD included.

Case works like a dream, front audio/mic/usb inputs work, sleep/awake works with the power button.

My monitor (Dell 2408WFP) has both camera cardreaders working 100% aswell as the mini usb hub.

Not working/ or not tested - 1%

esata case inputs. Haven't tested these they come up in system profiler as "Unknown Standard Controller".

PCI esata/power output card isn't working.

Fixes/kext's in order to get it to 99% working

Basically I did a IPC 10.5.6 install and didn't check any additional "kext" bundled on the dvd, because i spent hours banging my head against the wall checking and unchecking kext boxes to see the OS collapse after numerous installs because of dodgy kext's (i narrowed it down later and found that the 9800gtx+ kext bundled on the IPC leo dvd was giving me boot.plist errors during darwin).

Here are the fixes/kext's i needed to add post installation (I used OSX Tools to install kext files):

Graphics card: Needed this self installer kit by aqua-mac, i then followed his GFX String - How to guide. (I used EFI studio to edit boot.plist).

Audio Drivers Fix: These patched Kext's fixed the non working audio drivers bundled with IPC.

Time Machine fix: got a network interface error. Was fixed with mcphil's Guide here.

Conclusion

I'm really glad i invested in a hackintosh, i have no regrets so far. Sure you might need to burn the midnight oil and sacrifice a few days being hunched over a pc screen, but to see a PC emulate the OS X software so well was absurd and worth it.

I'm a recent graphic design graduate and in no position to drop thousands on macpro so this is a great solution, at the moment i'm freelancing and actually relying on my hackintosh using it primarily for all my design work (CS4 is all functional and working) using timemachine as a failsafe.

I went with almost the same stuff but used Kalyway 10.5.2 and used a retail disk with OSX86 to upgrade to 10.5.6. OSX86 had the 9800GTX kext pre loaded. Sleep works the only crappy part is on my end, I used a GA EP45-DS3L (se sig)and it didn't have firewire so now I have to get a card. I'm using it for wedding photo editing and music editing and no glitches.

Congrats man!
