kernalzero
I've got a P5LD2-VM with a P4 Prescott 630HT and the stock HSF is a load. It keeps the temps around 45-50c when running basic tasks and it's in a microATX case so it's not like there's alot of room for airflow. Has anyone used the Zalman CNPS7700CU HSF on this board. I want to make sure it fits the board and doesn't get too close to the DDR2 slots. Thanks! kernalzero
Well I got this HSF and replaced the factory intel one. First of all it's HUGE!!! So big that it didn't fit in my mATX case without alittle modding. I had to cut the some of the fins on the copper heatsink on the side of the psu to fit it in. the install was fairly easy though outside of that. Temps are in the mid 40's during full load, sorta wish they were lower based on the reviews from newegg. apparently some were getting down to 29c with basically the same setup (and a larger case with better air flow i assume). enjoy the photos Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15265-p5ld2-vm-zalman-cnps7700/#findComment-100650 Share on other sites
kernalzero
the temperature doesn't drop much compared with the factory HSF unfortunately. I stay in the 40's during full load with this $50 heat sink and fan which is upsetting, so I won't be overclocking much Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15265-p5ld2-vm-zalman-cnps7700/#findComment-108746 Share on other sites
EtherealRemnant
Get a better case. You can't stick a chip that hot into a case that small and expect it to actually have low temps. First off, did you make sure to use AS5? Second, Zalman coolers are extremely touchy. Modding the fins in any way has been known to cause a serious loss of performance. kernalzero
yes I used arctic silver and if the case is too small then so be it. I wasn't expecting low temps but I was expecting an improvement over the stock intel HSF. If modding the fins caused this then it's my own fault...oh well. I've already got a full server tower and 2 mini towers in my office @ home, the last thing I needed to {censored} off the woman was another large case so I went smaller...anyone know the temps of the intel D 805 on this board? FlyingHat
definitely hotter than the 630, especially because it's an 800-series CPU. but in any case removing those fins is going to severely degrade the performance of that heatsink... so you may want to look into a new one. kernalzero
I do want to mention I removed the upper portion, not all, of only about 6 fins! not all of them Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15265-p5ld2-vm-zalman-cnps7700/#findComment-135720 Share on other sites
