OriginalMACNUT
I can't decide on a netbook. Any help on Picking the Most compatibale one for osx. I want to stay away from SSD HDD's, looking for a sata 120 to 160 And I want to limit my spending to around $400 at the most, was hoping to find one with bluetooth. My Main Concern is Having wireless OOTB, and Video and Sound with a Patch if there such a Netbook. Though, I do alot of Bios editing for most users here, but I'm not up to date with what wireless and Video works for these Netbooks. Just another Machine to play with is all. Here is the link. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id...p;type=category Hoping to find one using boot-132, for mostly Retail install. Looking for any & all help, Thanks -OMN Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/152525-what-netbook-you-recommend-for-1056-ootb-install/ Share on other sites
Chillimonster
Although not Wireless capable OOTB, i would say a MSI wind with a dell wifi card ticks all the boxes. I was thinking of the MSI Wind as well, since I've already done a few Bios for them, but the Wireless turn me off. What type of Dell card is it? is it something I could pickup from bestbuy while I'm there tonight? *Edit* Deleted PIc's due to Common Sense. UnaClocker
Dell Mini9 is 100% out of the box compatible. And has a Boot132 install method, just download and burn the Boot132 disk image for the Mini9, and get a retail disk, install, run the install script after install, and poof, everything works. Even sleep. And the Dell Mini9 is now down to $250 (base model, you'd have to upgrade the SSD, which is fine because the aftermarket RunCore units are cheap and FAST). Install Guide And no, that card pictured won't work, it's Mini-PCI, Netbooks use Mini-PCI-express Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/152525-what-netbook-you-recommend-for-1056-ootb-install/#findComment-1077795 Share on other sites
paduck
I want to weigh in on the Dell Mini 9 as well. For less than $500 you can get OS X Leopard, 16GB SDD and 2 GB RAM with Wifi and Bluetooth. Not a bad deal. I've been very pleased with mine! OriginalMACNUT
If you'd like to use my Wind Driver pack for a fast Retail DVD install let me know. (I tried to send you a PM but could not) Sadly I went with the Acer one A150, though far from being Disappointed with it. I used the MSIwind.iso and everything but the Wireless is working at the moment. I've read reports that the Wireless can be made to work with different drivers, and some wireless utility. Going to try it out my self. About the Dell, it would have been my Pick, though I'm cheap and didn't feel like Paying a Huge amount for a runcore SSD @ $200+ for a 60GB My cost for the Acer was only $288.74 using my Brother-inlaws discount at Wal-mart and I have the 160GB HDD Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/152525-what-netbook-you-recommend-for-1056-ootb-install/#findComment-1079351 Share on other sites
UnaClocker
The RunCore SSD is WAY faster than that 160gb hard drive in the Aspire one.. Also the Aspire One can't go over 1.5GB of ram.. Kind of LAME.. The fan in the Aspire One is LOUD and can't be controlled at all in OSX, the Mini9 has no fan. Just 3 reasons why I think the Mini9 is the best Netbook.. OriginalMACNUT
WOW,Fan so load I can't hear it. thanks for the feed back, but not really the case. Glad you can afford the runecore, however I'm not paying over $200 for 60gb when the 160gb if Fast enough for me. total boot time is 40 seconds, though I can live with it since it's fast once in the OS. *Update* *Installed using OSXMSIWind.ISO* Sounds working*<----- alc268 Driver needed Video Working*<-----OOTB Both SD Drives working* <-----Drivers needed Webcam working* <-----OOTB WIFi working*<------ Requires to hold the wireless button at power up, and a second push at the HDD menu for it to work every time. Very happy over all, wireless I can live with as it only a small process to achieve working. Re-Apply Drivers after 10.5.6 update.
