I have been a mac user for many years and have built a few peecees over the years. I would like to build a quad core hackintosh and need to be sure of compatibility before I buy. I thank you ahead of time for your input.

So here is the list.....

Thanks to all!

Mobo should be good.

Video card I'm not sure about- I've never liked those half-height cards unless I've got no choice but to shove one into a micro-case. But it might be fine, I don't know.

I second avoiding Tiger Direct, in favor of newegg. (Not from any insider knowledge of Tiger, but just from comparing the two for service over the course of a LOT of builds through the years. Newegg has consistently been far more reliable, ships faster, and has better prices. I've had a couple of DOA parts shipped from Tiger over the years, NOT ONCE a DOA part from newegg.)

Processor- I really like the Q8300- just built a client system (non-Hack) with it today and it really impresses me. Seems like it's the rightful heir to dethrone the Q6600. It feels a little faster than the Q6600, and is cheaper on top of it. Haven't used one in a Hack though, so be sure to let us know how it performs.

RAM- you can get it about $10 cheaper from newegg- IE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145184

The DVD burner is over-priced. A 22x SATA burner is about $25 from newegg.

That case to me is horrifically over-priced and looks a bit tacky, but hey, that's just IMHO, and to each his own! :D

zaap thanks for the reply. I'm going to build a wish list on newegg. Is there any video cards you could suggest?

and

GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3P INTEL P35 Core 2 New (Rev 2.1) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...s%3DI%26otn%3D2

Thanks,

System looks great, good go on the Q8300. And the 8600 will be perfectly fine. Obviously more ram the better, DDR2 is cheap so fill up

Because $20 is $20. Because a P35 will work just as well as a P45 for most anything on a Hackintosh. Because there are a ton of perfect guides for that board that make setting it up for a noob easier than installing Windows. Because you can get a product shipped just as easily from 'some guy on ebay' as you can from anywhere else. Because actually there's the same limited 30 day return/replacement policy for mobos from a lot of online retailers (newegg for one) that there is from 'some guy on ebay'. Did I miss anything? ;)

The mobo shipped the same day I bought it, and it does come with a 30 day return policy. I picked that mobo because of the success rate, and ease of use. Thanks for all your input, it helps alot. It seems that there are alot of solutions for nvidia 8xxx so I probably gona go with a 8800gtz or so.
