gabemcg
I think that's all I'm misssing... when I set the HD that I just installed 10.4.5 to as the primary boot device, It hangs @ "verifying dma pool data" and never gets too the actuall booting of OSX... I figure I just have to install a bootloader on the drive. I tried booting off of the install DVD again, but it only lets be boot Darwine/X86 into the install process again... not from the HD any tips are appreciated, thanks! rhodar
i have a similar problem, though mine completed the install, but still wont boot. I have found a tempory solution until i can find out how to fix it, if you boot with your cd, then at the darwin bootloader, press f8... Then type rd=disk0s2 (if your macosx is on your first drive) or rd=disk1s2 (if it is on your second drive). Let me know if that works, and if it does, and you come up witha more perminent solution, let me know cheers Rhodar Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15110-i-think-i-need-a-bootloader/#findComment-97542 Share on other sites
two_am
make sure the partition that osx is installed is flagged as 'bootable'. use a partition utility like fdisk that comes on linux distros to set it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15110-i-think-i-need-a-bootloader/#findComment-98582 Share on other sites
rhodar
whether if it is active, or set to bootble makes no difference, you still recieve the same problem, i believe it is something to do with the 10.4.4 install disc. I have a theory that if you get the 10.4.3 install disc, and install this first, then update to 10.4.4, you should have a fully working bootable macosx installation. However i dont have a copy of 10.4.3, and only have a 56k connection (was difficult enough to get 10.4.4) so im hoping to find another way around this problem Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15110-i-think-i-need-a-bootloader/#findComment-100385 Share on other sites
danwood76
The roblem with the 10.4.4 install disk is that the disk utility doesnt make the correct partitions! You need a nix live CD to set up the partition and set it to AD type (I think) Then save the partitions boot with the OSX DVD and use disk utility to erase the disk as OSX journalised. This will then give you a bootable hard disk after the install is done. The alternative is to download the 10.4.5 installer and use that as the disk utility works fine in that! regards, Danny Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15110-i-think-i-need-a-bootloader/#findComment-100631 Share on other sites
rhodar
this is what i have found out.. If you get a bootable cd called "hiren's boot cd" (do not look at it on any torrent site, because it would be there and if you were to download it, it would be illegal, especially dont look on demonoid). Anyway were was i.. oh yes, after installing macosx, boot with hirens boot cd. Then go to "partition tools" and select partition magic. Then select the drive you have installed macosx on to and set it to active. Apply the changes, and restart. Boot with hirens boot cd again, this time select MBR then boot magic. After getting in to boot magic it will ask you to select which drive, select the drive containing macosx and it will restart. Take out the cd, and hey presto it should boot. When you boot into macosx, your computer restarts, and you try again and it restarts, its likely that your motherboard has an incompatible chipset. If it says "still waiting on root device after this, it is also likely that you have an incompatible chipset. P.s The information provided may not be correct, and i appologise nw if it is wrong, this is just what i have learnt during the time i have been trying to install macosx P.s.s If you have a sis chipset, you are likely to have many problems trying to boot ( i had an sis chipset, i gave up and got a new motherboard with intel chipset) Goodluck Rhodar Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15110-i-think-i-need-a-bootloader/#findComment-108946 Share on other sites
