Jason_Thames
I don't think so... not yet anyway. I have a VAIO SZ120 and my wireless still doesnt work. I was hoping the newer lappys would have more support. Of course I bought this machine 2 days before Boot Camp... now I am kinda wanting a MacBook Pro lol. -Jason Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14941-has-anyone-got-intel-wireless-3945-abg-to-work/#findComment-103842 Share on other sites

Rammjet
This is purely speculation, but it isn't inconceivable that the latest version of 10.4.6 shipping with the MacBook and MacBook Pro has a kext that supports 3945. If someone with one of those machines would look around. It is also a 802.11a/b/g mini-PCI express card that replaces the intel 3945 (just open up your laptop and swap it out). Also, the atheros card gets much better reception than the 3945 and is all-around a better card. this is pretty much the only option you have if you don't want to use a USB dongle. see this thread: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=13522 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14941-has-anyone-got-intel-wireless-3945-abg-to-work/#findComment-125388 Share on other sites

vinayp
Just send an email to wireless@pcdglobal.com and ask for the AR5006EX card. They reply quickly and ship it out pretty fast. Anyone know from experience whether the wlan led will still function with the Atheros? 2. This card seems pretty new. I couldn't find a big buzz about it in the various Linux forums, other than mixed results. Anyone here have it working under Linux, particularly Debian/Ubuntu/Kubuntu, etc.? I have the Belkin usb dongle working currently under 10.4.7 (waiting for 512m video before going to 10.4.8) , but it is HUGE, and hits my leg if I'm kicked back on the couch w/ the laptop on.... drumroll please.... my lap. BuXb
Allright guys this is what I found out: There is a Atheros 108 Mbit MiniPCI Express card a/b/g with the model numbers AR5BXB6 or 40Y7026 (=identical, just different numbering for the same card) - Apple has equipped their MacBook 1.83GHz 13.3" with it, and maybe even some more of their Notebooks. This AR5BXB6/ 40Y7026 has been reported to work with OS x86 in our forum here. Just to let you guys know. It can be purchased all over the place in northern America (just google, maybe froogle) for a ccouple of $ - in Europe one would have to pre-order it in the shops here (wait for it to be shipped from the states to the shops in Europe). viperrt74
I recently swapped the 3945 for a dell wireless 1500. It works flawlessly on 10.4.9 and overall has a better reception in windows xp and vista. I'm very pleased with it and bought on ebay for $42. Synaesthesia
@ forestcat, yes the atheros is well supported in linux. In fact that's where the driver came from, I think. Plus they have better reception/range than the intel cards.
