Hi guys!

I've had this problem for a while (since 10.4.3, and I think even 10.4.1), but OSX keeps saying I've got 4GB of RAM in my machine. I've got no idea why. I actually have 1.5GB in there, but ATM keeps showing:

Also, System Profiler shows my "mac" as having two available memory slots (it has four), one of which is taken by 128MB of SDRAM at unknown speed. Oddly enough, I have 3 sticks in this machine, and none of them are 128MB (1x1024, 2x256). They're all DDR-400.

Now I go to activity monitor...

Well, that's at least acknowledgement of my physical ram. The part that really annoys me is that it has over 4GB of virtual memory. Why on Earth would it need 4GB of virtual memory? About 75% of my physical RAM is free, so why take so much VM? I don't understand it at all, and the 4GB figure leads me to think that this and the ATM thing are linked. Besides, the amount of VM keeps going up (just before the pic, it was on 3.8GB, and its now on 4.2GB).

I don't know if this is decreasing performance or just wasting disk space as VM or whatever, but it is really odd, and very annoying. It's happened with every version of OSx86 I've tried (deadmoo 10.4.1, JaS dvd 4.2b 10.4.3, myzar dvd 10.4.5, myzar standalone 10.4.6). Any ideas as to the cause would be welcome!

am i being too demanding by asking if anybody has any ideas yet?

Definately not!

Anyway, are you actually experiencing any decrease in system performance? I just checked my details in Activity Monitor, and I have a whopping 5.86 GB VM size (it's just gone up to 5.87 now!! :D)....

However, I'm not noticing any decrease in performance...
