Old news but didn't see it posted here so for those who didn't catch this wild fire.

 

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 drives is failing at an alarming rate due to driver issules.

Drives affected are the Barracuda 7200.11 (include 500G, 1T, 1.5T), the DiamondMax 22 and Barracuda ES.2 SATA family.

It is said when power on, the drive might become undetectable by bios render the disk unusable.

 

Since the news was out on 16th of Jan, a fix was issued on 20th but was reported that 500G HD will brick

if firmware update was done from the 20th's update. A new beta fix was apparently issued recently but it is still in the so called "beta"

 

Shops in Japan had already stop sell these drive as the call for exchange rate had been overwhelmed.
