Installed 10.4.5 on a clean system using "MacOSX_10.4.4DVD patched 10.4.5.iso"

- Installed all hacks that came with installer ( AMD Enabler, 10.4.5 upgrade, etc)

System is very sluggish, under 4MB/s in disk access under XBench.

Under System Properties, SSE3 doesn't show up under CPU.

This is a ULI chipset motherboard.

Are any of these related?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Motherboard : ASRock 939Dual-Sata2 - ULi 1695 chipset (ULi M1695/ ULi M1567)

CPU : AMD Opteron 146 @ 2.75ghz

Video : Geforce 6800LE AGP

Network : RTL8129 (8139?, can't remember) - It works

Hard Drive : 80gb Western Digital WD800BB (Primary Master IDE) - Single Active Partition OSX86 10.4.5

RAM : 512 MB PC3200

PS2 Keyboard and Mouse

DVD was connected to Primary Slave, for installation. Removing it off Primary IDE didn't improve performance.

Maybe you should try doing a kextstat in Terminal and see if AppleGenericPCATA is loaded.

yup....AppleGenericPCATA is loaded

Even tried reinstalling thru VMWare under XP. Disk access is way faster, like many times faster.

Seems like there something with the IDE controller and the Generic ATA Driver. I wonder if there is a workaround.

Also notice that SSE3 is not enabled under CPU Features in System Profiler. Is this normal? I have an AMD Opteron, and it does support SSE3.

SSE3 won't be listed if you have an sse3 cpu...

anyway, would love to know if anyone has a suggestion for this...I can reimage my System drive to a sata if I really have to, but my DVD-RW well, obviously can't. I have been able to successfully burn at 2x, but I know from prior experience that 2x is really pushing the edge of pio4 mode...especially when your cpu is maxxed from it!

Go here and try this. It works for me with the same board.
