Micah Vestal
I just got Kalyway 10.5.2 up and running with Vanilla Kernel, and it's working fairly well so far. The problem I'm noticing is that my Intel Core 2 Duo (2.53 GHZ Dell Vostro 200) is only showing as "Total Number Of Cores: 1" under System Profiler. Should I be using a different Kernel? Or could it be a BIOS issue? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Micah Vestal
Bump? Does nobody have any input for me? I don't know what direction to go with this. majorcrabs
im not to sure but when it boots instead of typeing -x or -v you type -cpu () replace () with the number of cores you have Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147427-core-2-duo-showing-as-single-core-processor/#findComment-1045219 Share on other sites
Micah Vestal
Will that actually cause the computer to use both cores, or will it just make it tell me it has two cores? There is a difference between being told my processor has two cores and actually having both cores used. Micah Vestal
Update: I'm running 10.5.5 now and it still only shows up as 1 Core. I can't be the only person to have experienced this. System Info: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHZ Foxconn G33M02 Motherboard ATI Radeon 3650HD 1024MB 2 x 1GB 667 DDR2 Dimm RAM 500GB Western Digital SATA 7200 RPM Hard Drive Kalyway 10.5.5 / Vanilla Kernel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147427-core-2-duo-showing-as-single-core-processor/#findComment-1045635 Share on other sites
UnaClocker
Try a different distro. Maybe iATKOS 5i, it's almost a year newer than that antiquated Kalyway you are using. mming
Check your boot.plist file for cpus=1 but be warned running both cores on that cpu can lockup your system - mine crashes with both running on 10.5.5 with voodoo Kernel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147427-core-2-duo-showing-as-single-core-processor/#findComment-1045763 Share on other sites
UnaClocker
Bah! Newb.. Everyone runs multi core, it works fine. Run a vanilla kernel, the voodoo kernel shouldn't be necessary. Micah Vestal
Ok, I figured it out now. I edited the com.apple.boot.plist file and removed the <string>cpus=1</string> line. In case there is another Noob out there like me, this is how you accomplish this: 1. Open Terminal 2. Type the following (without quotes) "sudo nano /library/preferences/systemconfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist" 3. Type your Password when prompted and hit Return/Enter key (no characters showed when I typed but it still works) 4. Find the <string>cpus=1</string> line and delete it 5. Hit Ctrl/O and then press Enter/Return 6. Hit Ctrl/X, close terminal, and Reboot your system This worked for me with a Core 2 Duo processor, use at your own discretion! 87vert
I am now having the same problem. I have been running fine for about two weeks now. Used OSx86tools to modify the "about this mac" as it was showing unknown. But I was getting the dual cpu meter on the top bar. after rebooting it gave me some garbage on the about this mac screen so I used osx86tools again to default it. Now it shows 1.67 Intel Core Solo. When I have a Centrino Duo. Activity monitor shows two different charts at the bottom so I assume it is still using both cores. I tried the fix above but there was no CPU string in that file.
