fearnosurf
Greetings all. My appologies if you all are tired of answering these questions over and over again. I have spent the past few days searching this site, and a few others, as to which would be the best motherboard for my first try at an OSX86 Install. I currently run the following: Intel Q6600 ECS cheapo Mobo 2 GB RAM ATI HD4870 I understand I will need to replace my Video Card, and I am going to replace my Motherboard. Most recommendations I have seen are for the Gigabyte P35-DQ6 or the BadAxe2. Neither of these are available at New Egg, or Fry's Electronics nor Microcenter (both frys and microcenter are local to me, so they are my preference.) Is there any other recomendations that anyone may have? Goals I would like are: - Support all features of the Motherboard, whether with Patching, or not. - Possible Vanilla install?? And I also have one additional off topic question, if someone wouldn't mind enlightening me a bit... Is there any issue installing Boxed Mac software, e.g. iLife, iWork, etc...? Thanks in advance for your assitance and patience. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147234-q6600-motherboard-recomendation/ Share on other sites

fearnosurf
Thx for the reply. I have the Q6600 Quad Core already... Just looking for a good motherboard that works 100% in OSX86. The only Bad Axe 2's I find are open box. Any other recomendations? fearnosurf
HEY! How about the Hardware Compatibility List? You know, the Wiki? Looked at it, many times. Unfortunately it's pretty outdated. If you don't want to give your input you don't have too. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147234-q6600-motherboard-recomendation/#findComment-1044379 Share on other sites

And I also have one additional off topic question, if someone wouldn't mind enlightening me a bit... Is there any issue installing Boxed Mac software, e.g. iLife, iWork, etc...? There are quite a few mobos that are better supported than this. AFAIK the best support is in P35 and P45 gen boards, and people have best success with Gigabyte and Asus boards, though there are quite a few models and some are better than others (esp. for LAN and sound support onboard). There is a lot of work on Intel boards too, though they seem more expensive and don't overclock as well. I built using a GA-EP35-DS3L (check the weaksauce12 guide in this thread) and it is vanilla using Boot-132 with onboard LAN. I added a PCI Firewire card, and used an 8800GS video card. The P35's are not so current, but they are still available in some places (ncix.com still has some). The P45's are apparently pretty good too, but I get the sense that there are a few more compatibility issues and I can't see much gain in performance (the new i7's are a different matter). I have not found any software that has a problem with my setup (including the above mentioned software). Bit Shoveler
The Gigabyte EP45 family seems to work well. I have the EP45-DS3R, bought it at Micro Center for $140. See my sig for some setup help. The EP45-UD3R is widely available, about the same price, and aimed more at overclockers; it's also very popular here.
