Installed 10.4.5 today, most mac things run fine but apps like MS Word took 45 seconds to load. I don't think 10.4.3 took as long, could be mistaken. I also have iLife and most of those apps take FOREVER to LOAD!

IS THIS NORMAL?

MY cpu is AMD64 SSE2.

nforce 3 250 or ultra I think, can't remeber which but I do know it doesn't have SSE3.

But isn't iLife 06 universal? If so, then there is a problem, my idvd just loads, skips, music plays, skips, continues to load, skips, and I installed kext graphic driver from macvidia too that is loading.

If iLIFE is not universal then wouldn't that make the new minis do the same thing =TAKE FOREVER TO LOAD? (that sounds dirty LOL)...

Graphic Card Geforce 5200, slow but better than on-board GMA, at least that's what I thought ? > ;)

First you should post your system specs. And it takes a long time to load becuase it has to translate PowerPC apps through Rosetta.

I thought that too but did some research.

he says his MS office runs smooth...can't even tell Rosetta is running.

About half way down! :D

What else could it be?

45 seconds to load? Somethings up!

So am I the only one with this problem?

Surely this can't be due to OS X 10.5 versus 10.3? Could have sworn programs where faster and since I am AMD maybe its harder on the Rosetta? Plus lacking SSE3. Could it be possible 10.3 is faster? (I mean of course 10.4.3)

The lack of SSE3 is the main issue with your problem.

Rosetta makes heavy use of SSE3-instructions. The SSE3toSSE2 emulator has to translate this instructions on the fly which results to an overhead of approx. 800%. Plus the normal speedloss for emulated apps (PowerPPC code to Intel-CPU) AND the use of an non-supported graphic card.

And at least: MS Office X/2004 Mac is not a good performer. On my SSE3-equipped system it is nearly unusable. Even Photoshop CS (PPC!) runs a lot faster than Office.

Try "ThinkFree Office", it's written in Java and they have an Unibin flying around. Opens and writes MS Office and it is reliable. OpenOffice could be also a candidate for you.
