Hi Kabyl,

I recently installed iDeneb 1.3 on the ASUS EeePC S101 and and am happy to report that almost everything is working. Outstanding problems are:

1. I had to replace the AzureWave WiFi card with the BCM94321MC MiniPCI-E card

2. Bluetooth shuts off at every reboot

3. No Ethernet

4. No audio in

5. Extremely long boot time (five and a half minutes)

I’d like to request a mod for this BIOS -- shorter boot times would definitely make this a sweet NetBook for running OS X.

The latest BIOS is here:

http://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePC/S10...1-ASUS-0705.zip

The S101 has the Intel® Atom N270 with the Intel GMA950 integrated graphics.

Thanks

i also have this netbook, everything is working except wifi/lan/audio in. However, one thing i notice your boot time is 5.5 minutes? mine is very very quick, im using iATKOS.

Also, was it easy to replace the minipci card for wifi? i've done this on an acer aspire one, but never this eee, and its a nice machine, so don't wanna break it. Can you quickly summarise the process or point to a guide thanks :(

I figured that much, however just wondered what the access route was.

1. Unscrew all screws you see,

2. Remove keyboard carefully etc

....

Also is there anything i should know about or be careful of? Is the card located on the topside or underside of the unit?

Hi!

I am sure the delayed booting time is not a bios problem. I also have an EeePc S101 (16Gb SSD) and I was as fast as my budy with a MacBook Air. Word 2008 started a lot faster then with the Air.

BUT I have problem with the Resolution. I could not get 1024x600 - and stick with the 800x600 - anybody an idea?? Tried the published fixes (ResSwitch ...).

WLAN also not working - Bluetooth works - Sound works - Ethernet not working.

Dear D4ftpunk!

The resolution fix would be great :)

I run from original build in SSD (16 Gb) and as I stated it performs perfectly (as fast as MacBook Air, some Applications even faster!). I partitioned the SSD as GUID, Mac journaled.

I changed in the meantime the WLAN card, which I got from a friend from an EeePc 900. This card is detected by the system but is not working so far (tried the IO80211 kext). I will post any success.

Sorry for the late reply, im trying to get it working on my sdcard now  ssd will come later.. seems sd card is a bit of a challenge heh, at least its a class 6 sdhc still slow though lol.

if you download that package, inside the pauls msi wind driver pack there is the Intel GMA graphics installer, this will fix those issues for resolution =) quartz extreme etc works fine too.

Btw, i wanna change my wifi card, havn't disembled my s101 yet, but ii have changed the wifi in the acer aspire one before, how difficult is it in the s101, can you write a few notes about it for me please, like how to access it etc. What to be careful of etc.

Once i get my hackint0sh back up and running i will document a few things.

let me know cheers =)

Thanks for the link - I will give it a try tomorrow.

Change the WIFI card is absolutely easy (you nees a small screwdriver) - just 1 screw at the bottom - get the cover off and there will be on the one side the RAM chip and on the other one the WIFI Card - tear the cables off (carefully the are kind of fragile) and then unscrew the two screws - thats it - it is really simple. :D

Hey, the wifi change was very easy heh, the new card only just fitted though. just thought i would let you know progress. I can confirm this much

Asus EeePC S101

- Wifi (Working after easy mini-pci-e swap)

- Bluetooth (Working)

- Sleep (Working)

- Battery Meter (Working)

- Shutdown (Working)

- Sound (Detected But Not Working ??? ANY IDEAS?)

- Graphics (Working)

- Ethernet (Not Working)

battery life = around 4 hours

I think here we have a msi wind beater in terms of the perfect hackbook :P:)

Here is the link for the SOUND Fix - worked for me perfectly on the S101 - it is the best description I coud find in the net.

Thank you for the Graphic Fix - worked perfectly

Did you try the VGA out so far? I had no chance so far to get a beamer.

The only problem I have to solve is still the WIFI card - it is detected but not working! Which card did you use? Where did you get it from? Any Idea for getting the original card to work - as far as I know there are no drivers around for the AzureWave but there might be a solution in the Linux forums, which might work but my knowledge is not so perfect to create a solution - do you have any ideas?

Another Problem which I don' t understand is that for the MSI U100 (Wind) the ethernet is working - what is the difference to the ethernet adapter in the S101 (Company - Firmware???).

looking forward to hear from you - and YES - if we could be successful - it would be the best alternative Netbook at that time.

Im using a Dell 1490 Airport Card, works out the box, and it was only 15 gbp from a local dealer. :P gonna try that sound fix now, i already tried soundsource, which is something similar hmm.

S101 ethernet uses Atheros ethernet, which is weeeeiiirrrd. Its not on my priority list tbh, as im more interested in wifi heh, but i will try and solve that too once i got this thing 100% working.

Btw, my s101 is making a strange very high pitched ring only when im in osx, like its so high pitched u can hardly hear it. what about you?

"Btw, my s101 is making a strange very high pitched ring only when im in osx, like its so high pitched u can hardly hear it. what about you?"

Nope - not so far - but I did not pay attention - I will now and tell you.

Sound is by the way not perfect but good enough for normal pupose - what about VGA out ???

to get graphics working, that file i posted had loads of stuff you didn't need...

Btw, i made some more progress, i have got speedstep working on my machine, so the battery life has increased quite dramatically. I will post that fix later when im home again.

Also, i only got speedstep working as i thought the cpu was humming, turns out i think its the new wifi card i put in; i've used the same wifi card on other netbooks without problems, the s101 is the only one humming, and this only seems to happen in mac os x, ubuntu runs without the hum.

Furthermore, i read an interesting article today, 64gb ssd's are becoming available to upgrade the s101 for around 159 usd, which isn't bad for what you get.

Dear D4ftpunk!

Thank you - thank you - thank you :D

Your download is great.

Still not working on my machine:

LAN

WIFI

VGA OUT

Do You see a chance to get the original AzureWave (AW-NE771 = AR5B91 = AR9281) WiFi to work. I always screw up my system trying to fix that problem.

???Why is ethernet so problematic???

I tried VGA out and FRUST :hysterical: IT IS NOT FUNCTIONING - but a real issue for me (giving PPP talks)

BTW, the noise, I don´t get on my machine! - sorry has no idea to help you with that.

Hey thanks heh, I fixed my noise by modifying the VGA next which I posted above, did you try deleting the old one I sent you and trying this new one with VGA out? As far as wifi I think it's possible to get the azurewave working however I switched mine for a £15 airport card, if you need one I cAn get more. The only things not working on mine now are ethernet and internal mic, but it's perfect enough for me heh, I will let you know about any further progress I make heh

Yes - I used your VGA kext´s - BUT :( VGA is not working.

I tried Time Machine - to backup on the 16 Gb SDHC Card BUT not working - O.K. I can have fun without it. I might try the fix - but I am unsure - I don´t want to screw up my system again.

Do you have any idea if boot-camp will work - I thought about it - to solve the VGA out problem - installing Windows/Dos and presenting with that.

Yes, it would be fine to get an airpot card - how could we get in contact to make the deal

Sorry - VGA out - I mean is not working - VGA on screen works perfect

i didn't try timemachine yet, but i got a backup of my mac install using clonezilla, its a free alternative to symantec ghost... ultra cool heh, are you in uk or usa? as far as bootcamp goes, you can resize your mac volume using disk utility and then install win/linux on the free'd space, however you will have to modify the bootloader so that mac os x still works, with linux its easiest by just using pc-efi with grub. let me know what you have in mind anyway.
