ChiTom
Has anybody experienced issues with certain website such as weather.com, microsoft.com, youtube.com not working. I've tried firefox and safari. I'm running iDeneb 10.5.5. I also have an XP machine running on Vmware Fusion on the mac and it's browser works fine. I forgot to mention what it does. The tab in firefox just says Loading and sits there. Eventually an error window appears. The majority of sites work fine. I changed DNS , network settings, hosts files but no luck. Post a description of your hardware including CPU, Motherboard, Graphics & Model Number (if applicable). Posting it in your signature would be even better. Is it an issue displaying or loading? Do you have QE/Ci Supported? You can check this by opening About This Mac and clicking more information. There is a Graphics/Display section. ChiTom
That was it. I updated the drive to NVkush and everything is working fine. Thanks for your help. Actually I'm still having the issue. The driver update did not fix it. I was looking at firefox within Vmware fusion's XP VM. The specs are as follows: Intel DG31PR Quad 2.33ghz 4GB RAM XFX Nvidia 8500 512 iDeneb 10.5.5 Vanilla install NVKush driver or nvidia - had nvinject Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/146531-problem-with-certain-website/#findComment-1039598 Share on other sites

You may also be having problems with your LAN controller. Im not too familiar with your chipset but for instance on my nForce board there are several drivers available some worked but lagged for short periods of time. Id lookup your LAN controller and see if you can find different drivers. Or at least try reinstalling them. ChiTom
The controller is a realtek 8111. I did update it directly from realtek's website. It's very odd. LAN transfer speeds are fine. Web download speeds from sites that work are fine. I also ran an internet speedtest at www.speedtest.net and that was fine as well. What stinks is one of the reasons for the mac was iPhoto and its ability to order prints directly from the program. I understand it uses kodak gallery which also doesn't work. I was going to try replacing my home firewall or taking the mac to a neighbors house and trying it just in case it is a firewall issue. Lanceomni
@gnalc, Great Catch. It could very well be this. I had issues mostly with Torrent Applications freezing. It never dawned on me to check the memory usage as I would never imagine the app using much. But it was due to my 32bit AppleNforceATA.kext. I found a modified 64bit version and it fixed the problem. @ChiTom. If you are experiencing system freezes or even if your not lets rule the memory out. Try booting using the boot flag maxmem=2048. so it would look like: -v maxmem=2048 Let us know how it works. By the way. See if you can get us a copy of the error that comes up. hecker
You can also try reducing your MTU setting (in network preferences) by a factor of 8 bits at a time, pinging the target sites in between until you get a connection. You should also check your DNS server settings. ChiTom
I actually built the machine initially with 2GB of RAM (I had a bad memory chip) and had the same issue. I then added the additional 2 GB to bring to 4GB and still the same issue. The error is the generic Server Not Found error in firefox. Firefox doesn't crash. You can continue to use other browser tabs with no issues. All other apps I've tried work fine. On a side note there is definitely some flash issues. I use slacker.com and pandora.com quite a lot and both are flash sites. My 1st install was iDeneb 10.5.5 and I upgraded to 10.5.6 and both sites stopped working. I tried a separate flash update but no luck. My 2nd install was Kalyway 10.5.2 and flash did not work on those sites either. Eventually (5 installs later) I stayed with iDeneb 10.5.5 and flash is working. I've tried to find out what version flash is installed but have not been successful. My gut tells me this is a network issue. I did some MTU testing a few days ago and the largest unfragmented packet was around 1250. Then I crashed the MAC and had to rebuild it and completely forgot to look at the MTU again. I'm also bringing home a basic Linksys router and a higher end Cisco router to try. ChiTom
It was the MTU guys. The highest unfragmented packet was 1472. Once I set it everything worked perfect. Now I need to figure what's up with the Sonicwall firewall. Thanks for your help!!
