:unsure::unsure: i think it is realtek high definition.i dont know which chipset i have and which drivers to download. any ideas? here is a screenshot. thanks

Sound device consist of two chips: one is PCI device that you see on the pciture 8086,284b and other is sound codec that is not pci device so you don't see here.

You can found it under WindowsXP or may be create report

ioreg -l -x -w 1024 >ioreg.txt

and found HDA thread in it. (HDEF or AZAL device) where AppleHDA is connected.

As you have already got your hardware ids, its easier to search.

 

For you, your google query is

vendor id:8086 device id:284b

 

If you dont get any results which is very unlikely to happen, download progrm "Everest". It should give you your audio hardware information and its for Vista/XP.
