stuppy
Hi there Its the ALC889a chipset. I have seen a few things floating around about this causing panics myself. Some mention using HDAEnabler but I patched AppleHDA.kext - dunno whether that is enough. I'll look into the BIOS i think about the repost video thing. Thanks. The Screensaver - Automatic login is disabled yeh. I enter a password to login each time. MacUser2525
Hi MacUser again. Just thought I'd pick your brains again if possible. Having a couple of problems - ones that were present from the start but have never been bothered to fix. But thought i'd get them sorted. 1. When shutting down the system - it panics on AppleHDAController.kext. I think this is related to the audio drivers but cannot find any info how to fix it. I think your right there audio related for sure no clue really how to fix it as I have not seen any posts on that idea an easy fix though is to do like I have and put an Audigy sound card in my machine using the kX driver it works great should be cheap if not free if you can find a friend not using one that has upgraded, another option is a Griffin FireWave. 2. Screensaver problems. The whole screensaver thing seems to be a big issue and something that refuses to work. Although it could be the monitor sleeping. Anyway - The monitor sleeps fine. But when I wake it up there is static/snow on the screen. This hasn't been a problem until now when the computer wouldn't respond (I don't let the computer sleep, just the screen). After hard rebooting I looked in console and there was an entry - presumably before it locked up Sender - Kernal Message - NVChannel(Display) : Graphics Channel Timeout! After looking around it seems this might not be a hackintosh specific problem - there are reports of it on Apples own discussion sites. Just wondered whether you experienced this? Also RE: screensaver. Having problems getting it to actually work - along with having it ask for a password when coming out of screensaver. Its hit and miss whether it works or not. Any problems your end? I get the static/snow sometimes it showed up after the upgrade to 10.5.6 it used to work perfectly before then and as you have found not only us have the problem so it is a change made by Apple screwing us all. The screen saver has no problem working here except I have it set to not come on at all and it does yet another after 10.5.6 situation. With that channel timeout never had it but it seems to me that it looks like that would be something sleep related maybe I have disabled all of it and just turn off my monitors manually every time I am away from the machine, still say one out of ten/twenty times when I turn them back on I have the static or the screen saver running. I would say it is a waiting game to 10.5.7 hoping Apple has fixed it by then. Everything else works fine and I could live with the problems - but this lock up 2nite has made me want to get to the bottom of it. Thanks for any help you can give. It does not look like much tonight I am sorry to say except the work around for the audio the old reliable if it is not in use then it cannot cause problems solution. Also make sure to try disabling all the power saving/sleep and the put drives to sleep when possible is not checked as this can sometimes put the CD/DVD drive to sleep and it will not wake up until a reboot, I don't think I have mentioned that before. stuppy
Hi mate. Thanks for that. Glad its not just me with the static snow issue. I have disabled all the power management thingies. The only one that is enabled is the sleep display. Hopefully like you said 10.5.7 will solve any problems with the screensaver since it appears to affect legit Mac computers. Re: Sound - Just looked at the kX driver - thought it only supported Audigy2 cards. I have an original Audigy card here so think I'll slap that in tomorrow see how I go Thanks for your help. You should be good with it if I remember it correctly I needed to do a edspctrl -reset in Terminal and reboot for it to work try it without it first though and I would disable the on-board card in the BIOS as well.
