rohde
Hi everyone this is my first post, and I need your help. I really want to use OS X as my primary Operating System ( too tired of Windows ) but I have some concerns... My laptop is a Toshiba P30-RV2 Mobile Intel Pentium 4 HT (3.06) If this processor supports SSE2 you're fine. If it doesn't you can't install OS X. (Actually OS X requires SSE3 but the patched versions has a SSE2 -> SSE3 module installed). You check this on your Windows XP install by running a program called CPUz (google it). 512 MB DDR2 RAM This is fine. ATI MOBILITY Radeon 128 MB Graphics Card Don't know about this one. Check the hardware compability list - choose which one to use depending on which OS X version you want to install: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page Atheros Wireless Modem As above. Will OS X work with all of my hardware. What are the correct steps to installing this, and can I dual boot?Thank You So much guys, I really hope you experts can help me out.. I find the easiest way to install OS X natively is by using the vmWare version: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=11314 Good luck. Mebster
I wrote this for someone else but anyone can use it. Firstly search for "Mac OS X 10.4.4/5 osx86 Patched Bootable DVD" in Pirate Bay and download it. The exact name is "Mac OS X 10.4.4/5 osx86 Patched Bootable DVD". Its a 4.35GB iso file so it's gona take a while. I got the info to download that here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=10614 But basically you don't need to view the page as long as you can find the download. Then I followed the following guide. I didn’t need to use Partition Magic as I already had unpartitioned space on my 250Gb drive. Most people don’t. So you need to know how to use Partition Magic. I never needed to so don’t still. http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=13014 Shortened the quote a little below: 1. Have Partition Magic (version 8 prefered) 2. have space as much as you can I allocated 60GB to OS X 20GB for win XP and 500GB for XP as well but OS X reads (read only )NTFS just fine so 500GB is readable by both OS's 3.1st run partition magic and create (or resize) as much free space as you can after your windows partition and before any extended partition (thus creating 2 primary partitions) it is Crucial that the allocated non-formated space be AFTER the windows partition make sure the space is marked as Unallocated space 4. press apply and if required reboot to make the changes. 5. when done boot normally and click start then run type in "diskpart" (no quotes) press enter 6. type "list disk" press enter 7. type "select disk 0" press enter (if you are installing to same drive as windows) 8. type "list part" press enter you will notice you do not see the empty space you made in Partition magic 9. type "create partition primary id=af" then press enter 10. type "list part" press enter now you will see the the new partition OS X will be installed on. 11. type "exit" press enter Burn the "MacOSX_10.4.4DVD patched 10.4.4.iso" with Nero choose burn image in nero from the recorder menu (I used Nero 7.0.1.4) (I tried Alcohol 120% but it said it wouldn't fit although Nero didn't care) boot off the DVD.. once you get to the part where OS X asks where you want to install you must launch the Disk Utility to erase the partition you created earlier once done OS X installs fine not on the release i have it has an AMD enabler and booting failed if you didn't customize the install and uncheck the AMD enabler. once installed enjoy. the Darwin Boot Loader defaults to OSX but if a key is pressed within 10 seconds it lets you boot to what ever drive Windows is on. That’s it basically. I got into problems during the installation part. The DVD would load but the installation wouldn’t begin. And although we got a load of here, it seem NO ONE IS WILLING TO HELP. How i feel as time goes on :angry2: Hope the info provided helps you though. All the best.
