kahuna0k
Hello, I finally get almost everything (ethernet, sound, video, keyboard, wifi) under my Dell M4400, the only problem is that now I am not able to restart, when clicking on restart, everything gets closed, the screen goes dark, even the HD stop spinning, but it does not restart, just keeps there (all the leds but the power one are also dark). The same happens with shutdown. It is something similar to what happen with linux years ago, when you shutdown but then appears that "System halted" and you have to manually shutdown, but this time the computer is locked because I need to hold the poweroff button to get it shutdown. I have reinstalled everything checking the exact moment when I lost the restart/shutdown functionality and it is clearly after installing NVdarwin, if I install only NVidia Drivers 9xxx v2 it works, but if I don't install NVdarwin I get no support of my card. I've tried to modify the Info.plist of the NVDAResman and NVDANV50 kext to support my card (0x065a) before installing NVdarwin but then my system will not boot. So I have to decide between graphics-restart and 1024x768+restart (the choice is clear, but I will like to get the restart back). I've tried the OpenHalRestart but with it the system doesn't even close the apps. I suppose it have something to do with ACPI, maybe if I finally learn what those EFI Strings are and how to use them ... :-) Regards, EDIT: I'm using iDeneb 1.3 (10.5.5) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/142851-unable-to-restartshutdown-after-installing-nvidia-drivers-9xxx-nvdarwin/ Share on other sites
vinz420
Hi, I have the exact same problem on an Inspiron 1720. Is there any kext that need modifying in order to enable the restart function again? Cheerio. wingrunr21
This is a known problem with the nvidia drivers. There's no way to fix it at the moment. WhatTheFiber
get os x 86 tools and it has a force shutdown, restart option on it, it is annoying i would imagine but better than nothing Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/142851-unable-to-restartshutdown-after-installing-nvidia-drivers-9xxx-nvdarwin/#findComment-1073491 Share on other sites
tsutpen
where do you get drivers for nvidia 9xxx ? are you guys downloading linux drivers or something? the installers i've seen only come with 6xxx, 7xxx, and 8xxx options. nmr600
get os x 86 tools and it has a force shutdown, restart option on it, it is annoying i would imagine but better than nothing unfortunately, for my Dell M6400 (Quadro Fx3700M, Leo 10.5.5 stock kernel from iAtkos v5i) with NVidia shutdown/restart issue, even osx86 tools hard shutdown and reboot doesn't fix this problem. If I remove NVdarwin.kext from Extensions folder then I get shutdown and restart (but no res control CE/QE, etc) (same for NVkush and NVinject). So for now its just an annoyance to live with, I guess. Interestingly, my sleep only works with NVIDIA drivers installed and working properly, so given the choice its a no brainer, working graphics and sleep or non-working and clean shutdown restart, but like others...can't we have both? Eventully... milan475
Same problem here - Compaq presario CQ70-140ED Nvidia GeForce 9200M GE. Shutdown stops working when I install the NV*.kext files. Some say one can fix this problem using koala's dsdt patcher, Is there someone who can give some more information about this? By the way, is there someone with the same problem who's not using IDENEB? Otherwise It might be the ideneb dsdt.aml file that causes the problem. milan475
Strange, the new macbook has also an 9xxx card, the 9400M card, so I really don't understand what the problem is, maybe it is because of an wrong smbios or is is due to applegraphicspowermanagment.kext? I'm very busy this week otherwise I would gave it some more attention.
