Hi all,

I just installed 10.5.6 using iatkos 5i (10.5.5) version and it seems to be ok. Everything is running fine and smooth (faster). However, when I tried to run Yahoo messenger, my computer TOTALLY FREEZES (like a kernel panic). I uninstalled YM and reinstalled it, but now, it freezes right after extracting/verfiying the DMG. The screen changes color like the one in kernel panic but it doesn't give any information. My mouse, keyboard freezes, that's it. So I can't install YM now.

Could it be because I'm still using XNU voodoo 9.5 kernel? We'll that is the next issue. After updating to 10.5.6, the kernel did not update. Why? It is still 9.5. I'm not quite familiar with the new PC_EFI 9 and I'm thinking that it was because of that. So i tried looking in the /Extra and did not find any mach_kernels there. I tried extracting the mach_kernel using pacifist in the 10.5.6 package and chown/chmod it from / .. but after restarting, it is still 9.5, not 9.6.

Since I wanted to try using the 9.6 Vanilla kernel. How can I update it? I was so used to the old school chown/chmod the root mach_kernel but it doesn't work now. Where is the mach_kernel placed now? I really can't find it under the /extra.

Where can I find the error logs that YM reported? I tried looking /Library/logs but I can't find it there.

Please help? Anybody having problems with installing YM in 10.5.6? I also need to verify, just to make sure its not a YM error.

I also tried removing the AppleIntelCPUManagement ... kext jsut to make sure it is not that. But ... errrrr ... panic (?) or total freeze again.

Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

UPDATE:

Ok, I can 100% confirm that the panic or freezing error in YM is caused by the 9.5.0 XNU Voodoo Kernel. I tried to run the vanilla kernel by copying it to the root directory naming it mach_kernel.123 and chown-chmod it .. restarted .. pressed f8 ... typed in mach_kernel.123 .. booted ... opened terminal .. typed in uname -a - version 9.6 it is.

Ran YM installed and it installed. Opened YM and it ran perfectly. So I guess the old kernel is the issue.

Now, the only problem is permanently installing the kernel in my PC_EFI 9 build. Where and How can I find and update mach_kernel. Everytime I restart, it reverts back to 9.5 xnu.

Tnx

UPDATE 2:

Ok, my bad .. I already know why it was reverting back to 9.5. I checked com.apple.Boot.plist and found out that the kernel is named as "custom" .. I changed it to mach_kernel and now its working fine. Sorry about that. :(

Is there a modified 9.6 kernel already? I checked XNU site and they said that it might be in January. How about modbin?

Restore seatbelt.kext from your 10.5.5 installation. 9.5 XNU kernel works fine on 10.5.6

Thanks for the quick reply. Darn it .. I can't get the 10.5.5 seatbelt.kext .. my iAtkos dvd was borrowed by my friend. Anyway, I'm running 9.6.0 vanilla right now and surprisingly .. Sleep/Shutdown/Restart Works!

I have a GA-P35-DS3L mobo and an E2180 proc.

So do you think that the seatbelt.kext is the one that is causing the panic with YM?

Thanks again.
