Audiomonster
Hi, I finally decided to write on this forum after having spent hours on trying to have Quartz Extreme supported with my 8600GT. Maybe there will be a wizard here that can help, i lost hope :-/ I successfully installed 10.5.5 [iAtkos 5i] on a GA-P35-DS3L, from DVD. My 8600GT 256MB is the last issue i have. It works at all resolutions, but no Quartz Extreme. Note that it was working fine with 10.5.2 kalyway. I tried to use EFIStudio, and used 9f23installer.pkg (= latest NVInstaller if i am correct)... But nothing. I also tried 9f9, which i think should also work for 10.5.5 (?) but no go. Tried to use OSx86 tools 1.0 final (build 150) to enable Quartz GL (it does NOT propose to enable Quartz Extreme). Doing this adds an entry in the Graphics/Displays of System profiler, saying QuartzGL: Supported However Quartz Extreme: Not Supported Any ideas on what's going on ? I believe my system is pretty "standard", i did not expect this issue to pop up with 10.5.5 :-/ I would go back to 10.5.2 but i am doing all this in order to do iPhone development with SDK 2.2, which requires 10.5.5... gawkersucks
I had this issue. I renoved all NV* and GeF* kexts that are in the Extensions directory and removed the kext cache. Reboot so it uses just the Leopard graphics drivers. Installed the Leopard graphics update and then NVDarwin. Everything is supported properly for me now including hardware for core image. Audiomonster
Thanks for your help Chris. I did what you suggested but it did not work for me. I tried to reinstall 10.5.5 from scratch and i finally got it to work straight from the iATKOS v5i DVD with the following options : PC EFI v9 AppleDecrypt SMBIOS-EFI Vanilla Kernel Stock ACPI Modified RemovePowerManagement.kext OHR Remove Thermal Kext Graphics Update EFI Strings for NVIDIA 8600 GT 256mb Intel SATA JMicron NTFS-3G Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/142286-1055-8600gt-quartz-extreme-not-working/#findComment-1010862 Share on other sites
kylegypo
Hey I'm having the same problem as you only mines a 8600GT 512mb. I know QE works with this card because I used 10.5.5 for almost a year and a half before deciding to upgrade to latest version which is 10.5.8 and having failed I went back to 10.5.5.. but I didnt backup. So a fresh install gives me no QE and i have also tried all solutions. I remember having to put my device ID into some kexts, possible Geforce.kext and NVREDSMAN.Kext or something like that and maybe even more than just those 2. - which I have tried but nothing seems to work.
