Well, Hello everyone here! I'm new to this OSX86 scene and now that I've been a mac user for about 5 years I have quite the project I want to undertake. Anyways, here it goes!

I'm building a PC that will dual boot from a single 1TB disk. Half Vista 64bit, half Leo 10.5.x(hopefully 6). Anyways, on the osx side of it I want to do my audio producing stuff--logic, DP. I know that those work fine after reading here, but how about interfaces. Specifically my Alesis i|o 14? I don't care much about graphic stuff on the OSX side since I'll be using Vista for games and so forth.

Which brings me to my Vista intentions. I want to run a multi emulator frontend (gameex), with PCSX2 and so forth. I like the looks of the 9600 cards but have read compatability issues with them on the OSX side. Anyways, here is the total list after much research and reading:

MOBO: Asus P5E-VM HDMI

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200

Video Card: (Currently) EVGA 8800 GTS 320MB

RAM: 2x 2GB sticks of Kingston most likely.

Also, all my disks are SATA including my DVD drive.

Lastly! How should I approach the install? Use a vanilla copy of Leo, the thumb drive route? What seems to be the best way of going? I'm very overwhelmed with how many routes there are as well as when the most recent things have happened since this community has been around so long.

Any Help is more than appreciated. And if this forum is in the wrong area, mods please feel free to move it! Thanks again for all help!

Are you stuck with mATX, or would you want to do a full sized board?

The board looks like it will work, I have not done any specific research on this board, but the specs look like they will work.

Also keep your 8800GTS, the 9600 will not net you any noticeable gains.

However, as far as your install do a retail Leopard disk Boot132/DFE. Search the site for DFE there is a great resources thread. Down load your ISO boot loader, burn it, run it, swap your boot132 disk out, pop in your leopard disk and install. When that is done and you are in Leopard. Install chameleon update the boot file to the new PC EFIv9 then add in the DSDT file and upgrade to 10.5.6.

Wow, my spelling is terrible...

Thanks for all the info. I've read some info on that mobo and I guess it works pretty well, and also very OCable, not that I'm doing much.

Last question, would you install vista and have it do the partition, or go the OSX route? Does bootcamp even work with that?

Ok, this I definitely need some help on. I've spent countless hours on the wiki/forums trying to find out recommendations. I need a decent graphics card that is supported in OSX, but I'm looking for a GeForce 8800 or above w/512MB memory and GGDR3 for around $100.

Secondly, I'm desperately searching for a decent wireless PCI card that funtions, around the $30 range. I've heard of the Broadcomm 43xx working well. Anyone recommend something?

I honestly thought getting OSX on a PC was going to be really easy when I first got into this. Its a little trickier than I thought...

the geforce 8800 and 9600 are fully supported. So just get the one you want.

I have no idea about your mobo.

dual boot isnt that hard.

Get OSX working first. If your overwhelmed you can start with an easy install

like Kalyway. That is how I got started. I am going to attempt a retail install when my parts get here.

As for Vista. Use OSX to create the partition then install Vista.

Once inside vista you can use Vista Boot Pro to make a boot loader for OSX.

However, I havent heard of anyone in this forum doing that.

If you search for Dual boot you will find several tutorials on this site.

Personally, I always do a triple boot and use Linux to make a grub boot loader.

For me grub is very easy and linux will let me edit ktext files for OSX.

But I am comfortable in linux.

If you want to try linux get an Ubuntu install disk. Install OSX, Install Vista then install Ubuntu.

Ubuntu will actually see both Vista and OSX. Ubuntu will even create the boot loader for you.

It fast and simple. Im not sure why more people here are not using linux to do there dirty work.

Good Luck

Ok, didn't notice that 8800 and 9600 series are fully supported. What software do you have to use to get them to work or are they oob working? The OSX86 wiki HCL kinda scared me last night with a small list of what has been tested and working.

I have used Linux, specifically Ubuntu in the past, and don't mind it. Its just alot for me to maintain, not that I can't, I just don't have the time! It is a excellent OS, and very nice to look at, but just too much work to get stuff moving like it should.

The Mobo i know works, LAN and Audio (w/Patching) I just need to find a wifi PCI card that I can use. Our wifi/router is in our kitchen and my setup just wont fit there! Any ideas on good wifi adapters? And thanks always for the help and suggestions.

for the wireless:

dont use the bundled software just let windows manage it and it is recognized out of box by osx
