Tip
After having installed OSX86 successfull from a 10.4.5 prepatched iso I have the following problem: When I delete the OS X partition there is no more bootloader => no booting of Windows XP any more :-( What should I do to remove OS X and to have a bootable Windows XP installation back? Silly question - I know... Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14158-how-to-remove-the-os-x-bootloader-os-x-partition/ Share on other sites

Tip
Thank you very much for this fast advice! PS: Now I see, what a silly question this was... ;-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14158-how-to-remove-the-os-x-bootloader-os-x-partition/#findComment-90215 Share on other sites
Tip
Too early! Nothing but "operating system not found" is coming anyway. I tried "fixmbr" - no matter how often I type it, it say okay but every time says that the old mbr was wrong. So I think the mbr is still wrong. I tried "fixboot c:/" - no effect. Maybe the first (Windows) partition is no set active. But it's a real problem to set this partition active afterwards, after I've deleted the OS X partition and no more booting is possible. Now I'm installing osx86 again and will see if I can at least get read possibilities to the windows partition. Better advice? miliuco
Boot the PC from a boot floppy made in Windows 98 (or simply a boot floppy with MSDOS) and, at the prompt, enter: fdisk /mbr and reboot. Tip
My solution: 1. Out the HD auf of the notebook 2. Put it in an USB-case 3. Connect it to an iMac running XP ;-) 4. Make the first (Windows) partition active. This worked. If I had not playing around with fixmbr and boot.ini it would have ben perfekt. But anyway: I can start Windows again. domino
This method has never failed me when I muck something up. Boot off the windows cd and enter rescue attrib -h c:\boot.ini attrib -r c:\boot.ini attrib -s c:\boot.ini del c:\boot.ini bootcfg /rebuild fixboot Now reboot you computer. When your computer get back into windows edit eh boot.ini to say this: ...."="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect" Just add the following without the quotes at the end of the word windows. for example: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14158-how-to-remove-the-os-x-bootloader-os-x-partition/#findComment-90657 Share on other sites
