CLS-PRODUCTIONS
Hello i my names paul and i recently joined the forums only a few days ago but have been lurking for quite some time. I own a mac tower g5 and a mac book Intel core 2.4 i plan on selling them to pay for the cost of my new hackintosh. these macs were given as gifts but i want to take a crack at a hackintosh setup and sell them. I have made a PC before one for my grandpa and grandma so i have a little building experience and good computer skills. I took a look at the wiki and searched the forums many times and i am wondering if these parts will work for my build. Wman
Its compatible. You're paying too much for that gfx card, don't buy that case!!!! Its the ugliest (and apperently crappiest) thing I've ever seen and looks nothing like a mac pro case, NOTHING! Wman
I've seen a link to a newegg retailer that sells it somewhere. Search "slick hackintosh cases" and there's a thread that I beleive has the link in it. I'll find it for you, but I wouls sleep better tonight if I knew that the makers of that foul perversion of nature would not be rewarded (in the form of like 50$ for such a cheap case) for its creation!!! nvm, I searched through that thread and I no longer seem to be able to find it. I suggest a Lian-Li case. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141571-is-my-build-compatible/#findComment-1003892 Share on other sites
LogicalUser
get a 9800GT, instead of an 8800GT, as its not discontinued so you'll actually be able to find one new without paying way too much for a 2yr old card thats still "new" & kicking around in a warehouse. its the exact same core, amount of RAM, clock speeds, etc..... merely re-released as the 9800GT with the possibility of Hybrid Power support (irrelevant for OSX) and a SPDIF in on the card for HDMI output including audio. (both are optional features, vary by vendor) there are 9800GTs on newegg right now for under $100 US after rebate Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141571-is-my-build-compatible/#findComment-1003918 Share on other sites

I saw it worked in another thread cool yeah i think its a better buy thanks for your help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141571-is-my-build-compatible/#findComment-1003931 Share on other sites
Zaap
You should be able to get a 500GB hard drive for a lot less than $90 these days- where are you buying your parts? You can get a 1TB for $100-$120, or 500GB for around $65. What speed is the RAM? At $90 I'd say it's definitely not worth $90 for DDR2 800, or even 1066. I have this 1066 RAM in my Hacks, and love it. It's fast, reliable, and nearly half the price of what you listed. Heck, in fact it's so cheap now, I'm tempted to pull the trigger on 4 more gigs of it right now. Basically, if you're willing to spend $1100+ on a Hack, you can get a hell of a machine in that price range with component prices being what they are now. I saw it worked in another thread cool yeah i think its a better buy thanks for your help the 8800gt and 9800gt are functionally the same card, and both can use the OSX 10.5.5 nvidia drivers. if its not the exact same method needed for both to get them working, it'll be very similar Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141571-is-my-build-compatible/#findComment-1004016 Share on other sites
