Hi All,

Firstly, thanks to you all here for helping me achieve my goal of trying the Mac OS.

Thought I would share my installation story in case it helps others.

Hardware: HP 6710b with Broadcom Network.

I used Kalyway 10.5.2 installer with the SSE laptop kernel and the 3100 video drivers. All went well, wireless, usb and video working. However I noticed that the mouse pointer was stuffed. Installed the "Leopard Graphics Update 1.0" and everything works pretty much fine.

Only left with 4 little quirks.

1) When using USB storage for the first time it needs to be inserted during boot. After that it works fine as hot plug.

2) Sound works but after about a min it mutes itself. Weird.

3) Tried all methods to update to 10.5.5 but machine chrashes and dies. No such thing as AppleIntelCPU thingy.

4) Sometimes I need to boot a couple of times before the graphics work. Will crash just after the grey Apple logo and hangs with a white screen.

Office 2008 loads fine as well.

Generally very happy. Was wondering if Apple sold a X86 version of Leopard to make this trial legit?

Hopefully I remember everything;

Vanila Kernal

GMAX3100 video

All patches in the patches section

After install you will have a broken mouse pointer. Search the Apple site for "Leopard Graphics Update 1.0" and install.

Got everything working except sound. Still working on fix as it drops off after about a min.

Managed to patch all the way to 10.5.6 but somewhere along the way I lost on board keyboard and mouse. Am leaving at 10.5.2 for now as I am still green when it comes to Mac.

i have this exact laptop and i couldnt get past the welcome loop and when i typed in a few commands to get past it after some searching i didnt have any network devices recognized, i also used the kallaway 10.5.2 dvd

how did you get your network working?

I have the same too, display is working though, only mouse cursor has problem but with leopardgrachiv thing it works like a charm. By the way i tried without any patches, i have the sound back, but still o wireless, no ethernet, no modem...

Then how did you get that wireless working ??? If you could go to "more about this mac" to see which driver is using os x to run your wireless. Thanks

Hey since I have the same lap top as you, I have me too the broadcom chipset. But only the bluetooth is recognized.

Jbeul, just try PC Wiz's fantastic OSX86 tool and rum lspci. That will tell you what's inside your machine. I guess you have iw3945 (intel) wireless, which is not working (yet).

Else read this thread , bit old but interesting for HP 6710b owners.

good luck!

Guys,

a) To overcome automute download AppleAzaliaAudio .kext from my post in page 3 of http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...;p=538648

;) to upgrade read my upgrade section a few posts later

c) for ethernet to work you must clarify which card you have, I for instance have BCM5751 and with the driver I get 0's in mac address but it works ok

d) AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement kext is the thingy called, but what is the problem with it?

e) for graphics to work properly clarify Vendor ID (mine i.e. 2a02) and revision (mine 000c) to point you to the right direction (my solution is to use up-to-date AppleIntelGMAX3100 kexts but only use AppleIntelGMAX3100FB v1.5.24)

I also got kalaway 10.5.2 to work on my HP6710b (broadcom WLAN) yesterday. No problems at all. To make it easier I replaced the harddisk with an old 60Gb drive.

I use vanilla kernel, X3100 gfx and broadcom WLAN kext's. Now I only have to figure out how to update.

  • 6 months later...

I just tested the installation of Kalyway 10.5.2 on Compaq 6710b

So after installation:

- LAN: KO

- Video: OK

- Sound: Work few minutes before mute

- WLAN: KO

- USB: KO if not plugged at startup

For LAN, I found the kext for the broadcom 5787 and put a script in the StartupItem folder. Sometime, for an unknow reason, the tcpdump stop working (whereas the process is still running) and the LAN is no more working. Just need to kill and restart the tcpdump.

For USB, I don't find a real solution, but I've read that something around the AppleHPET. I tried to remove it, and it seems working. But in fact no. The solution consist only on relaunch the kextd daemon.

The better way I found for that is to create (or delete if created previously) regularly an empty file in the /System/Library/Extension folder. I scheduled this task through a small script in the root's crontab.

EDIT

Another problem, the keyboard (French PC) is not correctly working, I can't use the "<>" button. I must use another keyboard layout.

Sound: seems OK after Azalia 1281 kext installed
