v10.4.5 - default ATIRadeon9700.kext with 0x4e4a1002 added. Still shows PCI instead of AGP, but now I can watch movies and do a lot more :D

Drag out ATIRadeon9700.kext from Extensions folder (preferably to the desktop).

Open Info.plist with TextEdit (or vi editor, in Terminal) and add your device ID string (0x4E4A1002) at IOPCIMatch key. It should look like this:

<key>IOPCIMatch</key>
<string>0x4E441002 0x41441002 0x4E481002 0x41481002 0x41501002 0x4E501002 0x41521002 0x4E541002 0x4A481002 0x4A491002 0x4A4A1002 0x4A4B1002 0x4A4C1002 0x4A4D1002 0x4A4E1002 0x4E4A1002 0x5B601002 0x5B621002 0x3E501002 0x4E561002 0x5B641002 0x3E541002</string>

Save the file.

Go to Extensions folder and delete ATIRadeon9700.kext from there. Authenticate.

Drag the edited kext from the desktop to Extensions. Authenticate

Delete the files "Extensions.mkext" and "Extensions.kextcache" from Library (you should see them next to Extensions folder). Authenticate.

Open Disk Utility and repair the HDD permissions.

Reboot.

Would this procedure work with my IBM Thinkpad T41p?

My seemingly only issues is (yes, I'm a tad bit of a newbie, but a pretty good PC dude, a bit wet behind the ears yet in my Unix/Darwin):

You state:Drag out ATIRadeon9700.kext from Extensions folder (preferably to the desktop).

Open Info.plist with TextEdit (or vi editor, in Terminal) and add your device ID string (0x4E4A1002) at IOPCIMatch key.

If I 'drag' the ATIRadeon9700.kext to the desktop, I get lost at the statement: Open Info.plist

Are you saying open/edit the ATIRadeon9700.kext, then what is/where is the Info.plist, and after editing it, how does dragging the ATIRadeon9700.kext back to the extensions folder validate the mods?

Please advise.

IF indeed this will work for my T41p Thinkpad, otherwise, let me know, and I'll forget it.

Thank you

this is what I did to get my 9800XT to work properly. Should work for 9800pro too.

Had to add device ID to ATIRADEON9700.kext Later used Callisto 008 for res switching, follow callisto faq

to get res switching and QE CI. Plus installed QuartzSimple to enable Quartz2DExtreme

don't forget to fix permissions. :thumbsup_anim:

btw i'm running Jas 10.4.8 sse2/sse3
