Hi,

I have a dual-boot machine (XP SP3 / OSX86 iDeneb 10.5.4) and use Acronis OS Selector.

Everything is fine using PS/2 keyboard and mouse.

When I try to use USB keyboard and mouse I have to enable "USB Legacy support" in BIOS.

Doing that I have no USB working ports in OSX.

Any suggestions? A kext for OSX or a boot manager that enables USB without use of the BIOS...

Thanks a lot.

USB Devices not working

Approach 1: With this tip I'm not saying that you are going to make your USB devices to work, but it is worth the try.

- Restart your PC and go into BIOS menu. Go to USB configuration section. Set USB Controller = Enabled. Set USB 2.0 Support = Enabled. Set Legacy USB Support = Disabled.

- Save changes and reboot.

- Boot into Leopard just with -v (don't use -legacy flag).

- If it works, edit com.apple.Boot.plist and remove -legacy flag, if exists.

Approach 2: download IOUSBFamily.kext extension

(located here, in Utilities & Resources) that may work for you.

Always make a backup copy of the extension that you are going to

replace. If it doesn't work, boot in single user mode and restore the

old one.

See if this works. http://osx86.wikidot.com/known-issues#toc7

Also does your bios have a third option for USB? "Automatic"

Your symptoms don't quite point to this problem but are your Kernel & system.kext versions matching? For Example:

Kernel 9.5.0

System.kext 9.5.0

You can check your kernel version by typing this in Terminal:

uname -a

You can check your System.kext version by right clicking the System.kext (Found in System/Library/Extensions/) and selecting "get info".

This usually causes problems where USB devices are only recognized when they are plugged in at boot but there are other related issues. Check this post out: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=95789

Thanks a lot, Lunux!

It's working. I can leave "USB Legacy Support" enabled in BIOS, finally!

Now I don't even need Acronis OS Selector anymore, I can use Darwin Bootloader.

I have to do some more test as this machine is going to be a DAW (Digital Audio

Workstation), so stability is everything.

Again thanks a lot, Lunux
