Hi,

I was wondering if we can somehow disable write caching for SATA. We have frequent power-cuts here and I am not always at desk to turn-off Desktop before UPS dies. If I understand correct, enabling disk caching increases the data-loss possibility when there is a power-cut.

Any help?

Thanks Chrisb27, that is interesting.

The problem is that currently the UPS i have is dieing instantly when there is a power-cut. I guess i will have to repair it but i dont have enough money right now ( yes I am a student ).

And how does the mac read ups stats? Using RS-232 interface?

You should get something like this (http://www.apcc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SUA1500)

This vendor obvious does Mac and model like this have USB interface (is that the same one Chrisb27's using?)

Also seems that this company is the most expensive so I think it won't fit your budget. (have a looking at their website, some entry model may cost $60-70 or something)

And anyway if your computer would shutdown instantly with your current UPS, you may get the batteries replaced, or it would just become a surge protector.

Luckily I am living in a city where no surge would appear as the power is delivered through underground cables.

Maybe this?

I haven't looked at it to see if it does what you'd like but if it does, maybe it's cron'able. Based on a few of the comments I read I'd b careful using it for functions I don't fully understand.
