xbb
Hello, as topic title, can I upgrade the cpu safely? Currently using Leopard 10.5.5 vanilla everything works... fusionne
Here's a thread where the OP did a similar swap: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=139501 You can attempt it, but OS X may not like the change from 2 -> 4 cores. Haven't done a swap like this myself, so not sure where the problem lies yet. xbb
So, what does it mean, have to reinstall leopard? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/140065-upgrading-from-e6600-to-q6600/#findComment-995128 Share on other sites
nano2nd
I guess it depends on the board you are using but I can't see why this should be a problem. I upgraded from an E4300 to a Q6600 without making any changes to my Leopard install. All cores are recognised, everything just works. I'm on a Bad Axe 2 with an EFI8 & Brazilmac based install. I've run with this install for over 12 months without a reinstall - just Software Updates and changes such as implementation of EFI (first v5, then up to 8) and a move from MBR to GUID. But never a reinstall. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/140065-upgrading-from-e6600-to-q6600/#findComment-995501 Share on other sites
