the 10.4.4 drivers with the 10.4.3 AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext no longer does the job.

multiple resolutions are available, but no QE or CI.

i'm hoping the user base of GMA 900's is large enough to solve this problem, cause the mac experience was flawless with those drivers working.

please share ideas here.

Man :) And I though the GMA 900 could do anything in 10.4.4/5. Well, at least I can hope for that ATi framebuffer (by omni) to be written, so I can use it with my X600Pro hopefully :(

not a fruitful attitude. :) (i have an x800gt waiting in the wings however)

but...

i'm pretty sure the video related frameworks can be used from the old version, but haven't tried it yet. will do that perhaps tomorrow, if i can't stay up tonight. would like to have the benefits of the new video related Frameworks.

keep thinking! :(

I ran into the same issue. Res. switching works on 10.4.6 with GMA 900, but no QE or CI.

I looked into the difference between the GMA 950 drivers and 915/GMA900 drivers and there does not seem to be a huge difference. Makes me wonder if I should of waited and patterned my Hackintosh as the Intel Mac Mini instead of the Developer Mac.

10.4.5 runs rock solid, so I will probably keep 10.4.5 as my main system and have a 10.4.6 partition for testing until a hack, workaround or a driver is patched for the GMA 900. All is not lost, just another huddle.

Thanks,

How to get GMA900 working on 10.4.6 with QE and CI:

From 10.4.5 kext copy this file AppleIntel915.kext to your Desktop:

Control-Click on AppleIntel915.kext -> Show Package Contents -> Contents -> open "Info.plist" (open using Text Edit or Property List Editor) Property List Editor comes with Xcode/Developer Tools.

Under IODVDBundlename change "AppleIntel915DVDDriver" to "AppleIntelGMA950VADriver"

Under IOGLBundleName change "AppleIntel915GLDriver" to "AppleIntelGMA950GLDriver"

Under IOCFPlugInTypes/ACCF0000-0000-0000-0000-000a2789904e change "AppleIntel915GA.plugin" to "AppleIntelGMA950GA.plugin"

Move these Kext's from System/Library/Extensions to your trash [select them in Finder and Cmd-Delete] (Authenicate using your Admin Password):

AppleIntel915GLDriver.bundle

AppleIntel915GA.plugin

AppleIntelGMA950.kext

Now copy the modified "AppleIntel915.kext" back to your system from Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app using this command:

sudo cp -R ~/Desktop/AppleIntel915.kext /System/Library/Extensions/

Type Admin Password.

Reboot. If everything well well you'll something like this under System Profiler:

Intel GMA 900:

Chipset Model: GMA 900

Type: Display

Bus: Built-In

VRAM (Total): 64 MB of shared system memory

Vendor: Intel (0x8086)

Device ID: 0x2582

Revision ID: 0x0004

Displays:

Display:

Status: No display connected

DELL 2001FP:

Resolution: 1600 x 1200 @ 60 Hz

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Supported

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Supported

Enjoy having your GMA 900 Video working. DVD will now Launch. Quartz Extreme and Core Image are now fully functional.

Sincerely,

Goodtime

If the GMA drivers look similar I'm wondering if editing the GMA 950 drivers to pick up on your hardware will work. You know doing the whole Info.plist thing.

EDIT: Hehe, the previous poster did exactly what I was thinking. Thanks goodtime!

After my 1st post, I thought I'd try using the Header file from GMA900 and use the rest of the GMA950 linked files. Works pretty good.

If you try to use the GMA900 files in their native form, you will get some really bizarre screen artifacts that will render the Machine totally usable. After removing the GMA900, I noticed that the Screen res could be changed which made me start thinking, which let the 2nd post and amazingly enough I didn't get kernel panic trying it out.

So far so good.

Unrelated to GMA but related to 10.4.6:

I just got USB Audio and built in audio to work, but it took lots of playing around. I don't have a good solution for this one, except try:

removing all USB extensions. Replace with 10.4.6 Combo extensions (extract them using Pacifier)

remove all Audio Extensions. Replace them with your hacked working Audio extensions from 10.4.5

Unfortunately, goodtime's instructions for changing out and using the 950 drivers didn't work for me... too many drawing errors. Polygons all over the place, no text, terrible... got to find some edit gma900 files or go back to 10.4.5 ;)

update.... a day later, I found the gma900pkg.dmg here:

http://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=24...523066965593919

which is goodtime's link, and it restored GMA900 CI+QE support on 10.4.6! Thanks goodtime!

Strange though, I thought this was the same as the patch in the JaS10.4.6 install disc, and I did select that during the update from 10.4.5. Oh well, I'm happy now, and my machine is totally up-to-date.

Excellent! Thanks guys!

I found two versions of the JaS DVD..

One updates a 10.4.4 restore disk (didn't work so hot for me)

The other was a JaS 10.4.6 Install DVD which is were this pkg came from.

Glad you got it to work.. The pkg works best for me too. (which I found a few days later after hacking the (950 drivers).

Does anyone have a GMA 950 motherboard with DVI-D? Thinking about one day upgrading my MOBO and curious if this type of GMA950 upgrade would work or if it's best to stick with GMA900.

I wan't sure if it would violate the DMCA agreement, so that's why I didn't post the link directly.

Thanks,

hey guys..

just wondering if anyone can upload their copy of GMA900pkg.dmg?

i've used it once before - probably a month or so ago but have lost the file. the site where the file is located says it's been removed.
