Hi guys,

I have been browsing these forums for a while, trying to retain as much knowledge of osx86 as possible, for a build I am planning. This would be my first pc build ever, so bear with me. I have complied a list of hardware components I think will suit my needs. My goal for this system is to dual boot Leopard and Vista 32(I have thought about XP, but the choice is still up in the air really, so you're opinions on vista vs XP would be appreciated). I would like to use the Vista OS as my gaming platform, as gaming is what the entire build is for (that and video encoding). However, I have used various other windows operating systems in the past, and just found osx to be allot more pleasant for every day use, like browsing the web, and managing media, ect. Now, I realize that osx86 won't be as stable as osx (yet) but, I am willing to spend the time to make it work.

So, the system needs to dual boot, and be able to play any game I throw at it, at full speeds. I need to be able to run dual monitors one being a regular computer monitor at my desk, the other being my 50 inch LCD 1080i HDTV in the other room, 25 feet away or so. Now, my tv has two HDMI ports, and one VGA. I thought about using the VGA port, but then realized that HDMI>VGA. So I wanted my video card to be equipped with HDMI, however, apon further reading, it was made clear to me that a DVI to HDMI would yield the same quality picture. So then the only advantage I could see in using HDMI would be to carry the video AND sound via on hdmi cable. I don't know if this is possible, since my home theater has a surround sound 5.1 system. Maybe it would be just as easier to have one video cable to the tv, and one audio cable to the receiver?

Alright, so heres the build:

How would one best go from sound card to surround sound receiver?

If anything in the post is blatantly ignorant, please it excuse it, I have been trying to take in allot of information.

So far, I have only really thought about the hardware aspect, so I have not studied too much about the software to go on the computer. I will have to do more reading.

Any and all insight is helpful and much appreciated! I am looking forward to being apart of these forums and building my machine!

Thanks guys

that mobo & CPU both seem to be expensive choices.

for $80 less you get a E8500 at 3.16ghz, and the 3ghz E8400 is a full $105 cheaper @ newegg. (the E8400 can hit 3.6ghz on the stock intel heatsink)

as for the mobo, maybe i'm missing some features, but it seems to offer the same options as some popular well supported Gigabyte boards at like $80-100 less, you may wanna check out the EP45 boards
