poschi
hello, i need a new board + cpu for my work-pc, so i thought why not make it osx-compatible. here is what im planning to get: - ASRock 775 Dual-915GL - CPU INTEL Celeron D 331 S775 Prescott, 16/256kB Cache, 2.67GHz Sockel 775, EM64T the other parts are already here. does that work with osx? anyone running that combination? does the celeron support sse3 (some users say yes, some say no) and is more than one display supported in osx (with that hardware)? thanks for reading this and answering Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13725-cpu-board-for-an-osx-pc/ Share on other sites

marliwahoo
I think the best board for OSX is the intel 945gntlkr ($125 at New Egg). It has support for dual core chips, built in intel graphics, sound and network works, built in firewire works, you can use an add2 card for a FULLY supported second display (qe, ci & spanning). It has raid, tpm and efi for possible future use (not supported in osx yet) The ($80 at computer geeks) intel 915guxlx (my board) has similar features - with out dual core support, raid, tpm and efi. Graphics, network, sound and firewire all work great. There are other good mbs, but these are the closest to the Apple ADP boxs. poschi
thanks for your detailed answer, but its only for a second pc i use on weekends, so 125$ for a board is a bit to much for me. whats the real difference beetween the asrock and the intel other than the support for dual-core chips, firewire, tpm, efi. i dont really need that (but a second display would be nice indeed)? does sound and graphics (qe,ci) work with the asrock like it works with the intel board? alc0h0lic
Don't waste your money on an Intel 945 board , if u can get the Asrock 775DUAL-915GL cheap. If you need a high performance osx86 system, then wait for the Intel Conroe series with 965G/X chipsets that will be released in a couple of months from now, osx86 should fly on them =) =). 945G chipsets and Pentium D8xx/9xx aren't "future-proof" and not worth the investment.
